Ported LT1 heads (pics+flow #s)
Never been much on taking glamour shots, arent done anyway. Just a few shots of some stuff Im doing on a friends LT1 heads; couple shortcuts taken some of you will see....attempting to do this on a budget (lol) Intake almost done too no pics of it just yet. These were cut on by someone else at some point so digging in can be risky.
Chambers and bowls still need a little love...
Going on a 383, 226/234 HR cam approx 11:1 cr
Unless youre stuck on using a factory casting do yourself a favor, save more and get a good set of aftermarket heads. In the long run youll come out ahead to have things "right"
By the time this poor guy is done correcting things (theres a lot wrong with them) he could have bought a BRAND new pair that blow these out of the water.
These will be flowed in a week or so, will post up. Without it imo work it useless.

Re: Ported LT1 heads (pics)
These look good. Did you increase volume much anywhere?
LOL yea budget
I had +$500 in my ported stock heads in the end and I would guess you'll have a bit more depending what you do.

Re: Ported LT1 heads (pics)
Thanks
Heads were gone through by someone less than 2k mi ago-could use a little tlc
Ill CC the intakes to see where they are at size wise and will also flow them.
Hate to toss out a # because benches, like dynos can be humbling but Ill be cinservative and say 250/180-think they will go more though. Could have pulled a few more out in a few areas but not worried about "extreme" here.
Guy had a ticking sound and turned out the tips of 2 valves were getting beat up so off they came. Upon taking them apart every single one of them were in similar condition. The guides are pretty shot, could have contributed to it in part who knows. One keeper was about to pull through the retainer.
Guy runs it flat out in Tx at 160-170mph for 20-30 min at a time...whenver he can so whatever wear he gets will be extreme Id think.
The ticking was a blessing in disguise, tearing it apart at this point probably saved his bottom end. Hole in the pan at that speed, ouch!
Anyway were going to go through the whole deal if he can, run the car then save for some good aftermarkets.
At the end of the day between buying these then paying for all the work done he could have bought some afrs and been halfway through paying for his shortblock. Feel bad for the guy

Re: Ported LT1 heads (pics)
I meant to mention before good work with the pics too anyone who's tried to take photos of head work can tell you it's a huge PITA!
With aftermarket stuff getting cheaper it's hard to justify porting your own heads unless you have interest in the porting its self and not just the outcome. Sure you can save a good bit of cash if everything's perfect but that is seldom the case so your mileage may vary.

Its really not worth it to do things right. Bigger valves, seats, guides (dont believe in knurling) seals surface and god knows what else. Yes it jumps up there fast.
On photos yes! Couldnt take a nice one to save my life they always look worse then they do up close in person. They make something called instructions but there were no pop up pics so I threw them out

Re: Ported LT1 heads (pics)
This is on the old valve job, will pick up some more with the new one expecting 6-8cfm no more than 10
Typically use 2 different benches, this one consistently reads 8-10 cfm lower on the intake side (fixture) the exh always are about the same. No pipe used on this one.
When "done" should be Ok for stock junk
INTAKE
.100 57.8
.200 118.7
.300 175.0
.400 221.7
.500 252.6
.550 262.9
.600 260.4
Stalls from that point on
EXHAUST (No pipe used)
.100 53.0
.200 99.6
.300 138.8
.400 172.5
.500 188.4
.550 195.8
.600 203.7
.650 208.2
.700 212.6
.750 214.1
Now Im no expert but by reading over some other sheets I have where stock sized valves are used the real advantage to larger valves is from the .500-550 range on up otherwise a 1.94 intake valve works fine for the average 2xx @.050 duration/Hotcam type street car. Could be wrong though.

Re: Ported LT1 heads (pics+flow #s)
Gen2 LT1
Yes, how much Ill have to measure.
more than most think lol. Picked up a set today Ill have 6-700 in them by the time they are done.
Larger valves, seals decking valve job springs, etc. Cost gets up there quick.
Plus the time porting them
