Is it easier to install both the tranny and engine at the same time or just the engine and the trans later, 350 Th700. Thanks for you opinoin,

IMO engine first then trans from the bottom. Less to wrestle with on the hoist that way.

If the 1986 tranny has never been rebuilt, I'd pull both together as a unit. Then I'd get a 1988 or newer 700R4 (they made significant changes in mid 1987 years), have it rebuilt, and put entire drivetrain back in at once. ESPECIALLY if this is a 305 car - many of us find that as soon as the 305 is swapped for the 350, the tranny slips almost immediately behind the 350, where it was fine behind the 305 - because the 350 is so much more powerful - the 700R4 can act fine until it gets that extra hp in front of it. I pulled my 305, put in 350 - and on first test drive, barley got 2 blocks back to the driveway because the tranny slipped so badly behind the new power. Might as well just do it at once and make it easy.

Re: 1986 Camaro engine swap oninions please

Two good points, but with the equipment I have (stands on 2X12s on the ground) it was very hard for me to get the trans matched up. So far the trans that I "think" has been replaced and is spotless inside has handled 6 pounds of boost with no problem, plus, I have a spare 700 that was rebuilt for me with very good parts, or so I was told. I'm pulling the engine and I do not want to fight the trans on my back. If anybody else gas any opinions, please let me know.

personally if you want both out, pull them out together . yes u gotta wrestle with motor/tranny but its alot faster and less layin on the ground work.. i took out my 85 305 motor out my car and put a vortec 350 and that 700r is doing fine

I would pull both together. If you have a good hoist its not a problem, some of the small cheap hoists don't handle the extra weight very well.
