Hey guys. I know oil threads have been beaten to death, but has anyone had any experience with this product?

It's basically an alternative to using a ZDDP additive, but safe for cat converters.

Any thoughts?

I have heard of it never used it though. I see it all the time in the autozones and pepboys around town havent heard anything bad but most ZDDP additives are safe for cats anyway.

There are a lot of different oil additives on the market, I'm sure you already know that. Camshaft companies are now selling them too. At least one NASCAR team is now selling a "special" oil with an additive package.

The reason given for their use is the changes in the formula for engine oils that effects the wear characteristics of flat tappet cams and lifters. Roller cams don't need as much of those additives as flat tappet valve trains do.

From what I've been reading, some of the additives are beneficial for engines running flat tappet cams. I haven't read anything from engineers who say one kind is better than another. Of course, the maker of additive "A" is going to say their's is the best; then the maker of additive "B" is going to say the same thing. Now, along comes company "C". . . .

Whether the one you linked is an 'acceptable' alternative to ZDDP would have to be proven to me in order for me to accept that it is. Advertisers say all sorts of stuff to sell their products - some of it not even close to being true and accurate

Absent any evidence to the contrary, I believe one ZDDP additive product is about as good as another. I'd just buy the one from a company whose name I recognize and trust and skip using the unknown ones.

I hope I'm not the only one here that knows this..."Remember to look for the starburst symbol on all SAE approved oils. Everything you need is already in there."

This thread reminded me of those training videos.

Yeah, but the starburst symbol has nothing to do with the lack of zinc that modern oils have.

I thought zinc is in most modern oils? Why would they NOT put it in? More money for lifters and cam lobes?

Mainly because zinc lowers the life span of cat converters.
