cant pass inspection.
im trying to pass inspection, my HCC levels and O2 levels are quite high.
ive done a full tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, O2 sensor) and intake manifold gasket. i havent changed the cat yet. im just not sure what else i can do.
im also running a little rich. how can i stop this from happening?
any tips or tricks i can do to get me to pass?
thanks guys!

Re: cant pass inspection.
every day I'm reminded how much I love PA's "visual only" inspection on my 89.
Lean out the fuel mixture if it's running rich.. this can be done a number of ways.. one of which is isopropyl in the gas tank. But you didn't hear it from me. *wink*

Re: cant pass inspection.
A quart of methanol, methyl alcohol or whatever names you want to call it into a full tank of fuel. Use a higher octane fuel to reduce any spark knock that might be detected by the knock sensor which will cause the ECM to retard the timing.
195 thermostat and make sure the engine is hot when tested.
Set the timing to factory specs.
New air filter
Working EGR and PCV system

Re: cant pass inspection.
thanks for all the tips guys! really appreciate the help. hope i don't sound dumb by asking all these questions. just trying to get as much advice as i can, and trying to learn more about the car as i go along.
where can i get methanol? i know i sell isopropyl at my parts store. is it the same or different?
all parts changed so far have been ac delco. figured it would be the best thing. that shouldn't have anything to do with it right?

Re: cant pass inspection.
Hey haha love having an 86 no more inspection! run sea foam thru your intake you will have to find a vaccum line that will run it thru the whole intake or get it into the throttle body the stuff is high on price but i can bet you will pass!
- Get the sea foam in the intake
- Have someone hold the car at about 1500 to 2000 RPMs (it will tey to shut off)
- So it until most the smoke is gone
- Shunt the car off and sit for about 20 mins
- Take car for drive and have it re - tested

Re: cant pass inspection.
High HCC and O2 levels are normally caused by ignition misfires. I recommend finding the root cause of this and repair what is wrong instead of trying numerous tricks to get it to pass inspection. If you don't care about your car running the way it is supposed to, disregard this post.
