Obnoxious rattling noise plagueing the TA...
So today i took the TA to the muffler shop and had a new exhaust pipe welded on from the cat to the mufflers. The previous one was leaking and rotted... thought this was the noise... Lets describe the noise as being a rattling that sounds like chainlink fence being slapped against the posts they mount to... yea i know kinda a vague description but the best I can relate it to. The car does not rattle in park, only when driving over 1000 rpm. The car has no loss of power and everything seems fine, just a god awful noise. Now the mechanic who did my exhaust pipe said the catalytic converter was Empty?? so i assume he meant rotted through... could this be the source of my odd metallic rattling noise??? Any help would be great!!

Could be. The cat on my camaro was so rotten that the outer casing rusted off and was just sitting on it. You should have had him replace the cat while he was doing the rest of the exhaust, anyway.

yea, i should have, but i did not have the money for that. I looked at it last night and it actually sounds like it may be coming from in front of the cat. This problem goes away occasionally for a few seconds and comes back randomly. Hitting bumps seems to quiet it... I just am worried it may be something internal to the engine or tranny, but then again i am sure if that were the case the car would be plagued with power loss and not shifting which doesnt seem to be the case....
