Weird Oil Pressure Issue

I need some advice and somewhere that I can start looking for this issue. Note that I did lifters and intake gaskets On the weekend and the car ran normal.

I drove my car on Sunday and yesterday without any issues. The onyl thing was that the fuel pump did not shut off when the ignition was turned off. Normally it primes for 5 seconds after the car turns off and then the pump turns off. Now it keeps running. I cycled the key a couple of times and it finally shut off.
The main issue is that I do not have any oil pressure. I took the sending unit off and it looks fine, i left it off and cranked the motor, and no oil came out of the fittings either. I took the valve cover off and cranked the motor and there doesn't look to be any oil coming to the top of the motor. I changed the oil filter as I have seen them collapse and cause no to low oil pressure, and that seems to not help either. I also left the filter off and cranked the motor over to see if the pump was working and it looks to be as there was oil coming from the center where there filter screws onto.
Couple of things, what is the next step without ripping the motor apart, how do I check to see if a passage is blocked and where the filter screws on, is there a relief of some sort that the oil goes straight to the pan again? I think I saw a spring loaded valve there but not sure what it does.
Next the fuel pump did not stop this time no matter how many times I cycled the key, I had to disconnect the battery to make it stop, and when i reconnect it starts up again. Why is this?
Also there are two sending units near the back of the motor. One is a one wire unit that i belive goes to the gauge and the other is a two wire unit that I belive is the oil pressure fuel pump safety switch. Or do I have them backwards?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the lengthy post.

If you just had the intake off, check that the distributor is all the way down and engaged into the pump shaft.

Re: Weird Oil Pressure Issue

I had the car running and it seemed fine. I had oil pressure, like i said I went out yesterday morning and there was nothing.
There is a new symptom, when the gauge was at 0 and the car was jsut started I revved it up and the gauge went to full pressure. Now the weird thing is that the pressure decreases very slowly. Now I am thinking that something is blocking the passages to the top of the motor. How would I clean the oil passages without ripping the motor apart? Compressed air?

won't that Seafoam clean the oil passages without ripping the motor apart? i have not used it but all of the reviews seem great. Check into that with a search.

That is my issue. I don't want to run the car knowing that there is no oil pressure. Can I used compressed air in one of the passages to blow whatever is in there if there is anything (the oil pressure inlet)?

You're sure it's not the sending unit?

Re: Weird Oil Pressure Issue

I am about 99% sure it is not as there is no oil coming from the port when the sensor is unplugged, plus there is no oil to the top of the motor. I am going to try another one, but think that is going to give me the same results.

Re: Weird Oil Pressure Issue

I was able to get pressure but now there is another issue. The pressure will not go down. What happens is when I start the car the pressure builds as it should and I get oiling to the top of the motor. When I shut the car off the pressure stays there and does not leak down if you will as it is suppose to. This causes my fuel pump to run on because the pressure switch says there is still pressure.
I know for a fact it is not electrical because I took out the oil pressure sending unit and there was a lot of pressure when it was out, and when the pressure was relieved the fuel pump stopped.
My question to you is why would the pressure not leak down and how can I test it? I think there is a blockage somewhere and that is why this is happening. The only place that I can see this is in the main oil galley, or in the tubing where the sending units are. Has anyone had a similar issue, or can give me a place to start looking? Thanks
