lifter tick
ok i have an 85 iroc i purchased last september it was someone elses project i got it for a good deal just a few weeks ago i was pulling it out for the first time i did plugs wires cap rotor oil change all that good stuff and shortly after maybe 3-4 days prolly 500 miles of driving i started getting a ticking from a lifter i checked it not the exhaust im 100 percent positive its a lifter and all i know of the motor is its said to be a 71 350 out of a chevelle i believe almost stock its got shorty headers holley 600 cfm carb i believe and a mild cam im wondering if something i did when i tuned it up could have caused this to happen maybe something i can do to stop it/quiet it down ive talked to a few friends one suggested using lucas oil stabalizer i did that it helped for about 4 minutes it seemed another buddy told me to add this zinc additive i did that nothing happened another buddy told me to adjust the valve lash ive tried countless things and nothings helping im basically just trying to keep it driveable til i can afford a rebuild or a new motor any ideas? or am i pretty much screwed as this is my daily driver

Re: lifter tick
thats about what it comes down to too..... but another question what would be a good combo for an older 350 cause i was thinking when i tear down the motor to do the lifters i was thinking of doing heads cam lifters pushrods intake basically replacing the whole top end of the motor my buddy says he has a set of world product sportsman heads a decent sized cam from comp cams not sure of the specs and he said he can get everything else i would need to do all this for around 1000 bucks... he owns a shop building motors and gets a pretty good discount.. my question is does it sound worth it? or should i just rebuild the entire motor?
