fuel pump internal

simple question:
my fuel pump and wiring harness in my car has three wires: purple, black, and grey
my new fuel pump replacement only has two wires: grey(+) and black (gnd)
what do i do with the purple wire? It is not mentioned in the Haynes manual either, it only has +/gnd..??

Re: fuel pump internal

I'm having issues with the level sensor. Ive got gas in the car, but its showing full to the max, way past full. It use to be up and down constantly, but now its just past full forever. I had a look in the tank and the float seems to be working fine. where can i track down the purple wire to? I'm thinking i have a short in the wire somewhere. I havent climed under the car to try and chase it down, anyone know where it is a good place to tap into the tire to test it?

Re: fuel pump internal

the purple wire goes into the car, and runs under the carpet on the inside, not the outside. From there, im not sure. I know i saw a purple wire in the fp relay, but not sure if thats the same one.

Re: fuel pump internal

I see where the wires go into a plug right infront of the tank, goes through the backseat wall down the hunp and over to the drivers side harness, under the door sill and to the underside of the dash. didnt see anything wrong with any of that.

What ground wires/locations, could cause the problem? I'm thinking its a ground wire now. Have always had little wiring issues with the car
