HELP- accelerator sticking!

I own a 91 TPI. Ok, my car idles normal. As far as when it is sitting still. Now, after driving down the road, the car's pedal feels as though it is sticking a little bit. Almost feels like i have cruise control sometimes. Imagine this, you drive down the road normally at say 30 mph and then take your foot off of the pedal and it idles at 1K for about thirty seconds. Actually it almost feels like it may be accelerating a little bit too! , then slowly decelerates as it should. You can see the tach go from 1k to like say 800 and then lower, but it takes a while. Also the car rarely downshifts now like it should when i try to pass or blow by a rice burner. As a matter of fact the other day after filling my tank up, i floored the accelerator to pass someone and the gas pedal stuck to the floor! I had to brake real hard to get it to disengage and decelerate...... I thought that my idle may have come misadjusted and set too high somehow, but now that i think about it , it seems like something going on with my accelerator cable or even gas pedal itself. Does anyone know if this is just a bad accelerator cable? or maybe it is the throttle body? Something just feels like it is not letting go or disengaging properly. If it is the accelerator cable then how hard is it to change? Does it just need grease? Man, any help would really be appreciated .

Re: HELP- accelerator sticking!

Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body. See if it's the throttle body sticking or the cable.
Lube Lube Lube.
In most cable sticking situations, I find that replacement is the surest bet.
I've also found that OE cables have a much better chance of fitting correctly as opposed to parts store cables.

And if is not the cable it may well be the TB.
The hole the butterfly shaft runs in wears out of round with age so that the shaft does not rotate freely and can bind up.
Usually requires a tap on the throttle to make it return to proper idle position. Can get TB rebuilt with bronze bushes installed on shaft for $160
