Alright so heres the thing i got a 89 350 iroc-z in jan of 09 i got it for $800. I had around $5000 that i had saved ever since i started working( at Burger King lol ). So first thing i did was get a full tune up( wires spark plugs oil ect.) then once it was running fine, i took it to paint thats when it all began. The day i was going to pick it up from the painter he told me it ran out of gas. so we went for gas and put it in then it still wouldnt turn on. so we had to tow it to my mechanic he told me it was somthin with the starter he fixed it and that was that. then that same day it did something it hasnt ever done before its idle would go up and down and then when i would be coming to a stop it would die. we took it back to the mechanic and it stayed there for a month. in the end he couldnt figure it out \. so we decided to take it to another mechanic. he figured out the problem he said that the computer wasnt working properly cause it waS IN limp mode because the injectors wernt good. there goes $800 we got a new computer and injectors and it worked fine no problems for like a month. then the mechanic told us that the tps was not working so we got another one and it worked fine for like 2 days then it started idling wierd in park and nuetral at 2500 and in drive at 1500. so we took it back and he said the timing was off so fixed it and he also said that the computer was messed up again but we had a guarantee on it so we got another one and it worked fine now it idles in park at 1000 and in drive at 500. but now the car feels a little weaker and now it turns off once in a while like before. so please if anyone might know what this is please help me out i have invested about 6000 already but i wont give up cause ive alwayz love thirdgens so yeah please help me out.sorry if i bored you

Sorry about your car. I have the same feeling, saved 2500 from McDonalds and bought an 85 Z28 with TPI. Trans went out, electric fan stopped working, now it wont shift into overdrive with a new trans and gives me about 3 error codes. These cars were cheap when they came out so I think there's bound to be a few lemons, plus I dont think the electronics were meant to last 20+ years. Get as many books and service manuals as you can I wish I could help but your not alone and keep trying I've met way too many people that had one in high school and wishes they still had it good luck! As for the idleing issue it could be the IAC valve (idle air control) located by the throttle body. Mine went out and its like a 50 dollar part depending on where you get it. It would idle low and shut off randomly anything above 1500 rpm and no problems. hope this helps.

You probably didn't "need" any of those ECMs. The injectors alone were the original problem. If you have access to a laptop, and you want to spend the smartest $80 you ever spent on it; get the kit from www.moates.net, download TunerProRT, and the correct config file for your particular car. Then you will be able to see what the ECM thinks of things before spending money on items you probably don't need. Honestly, it wouldn't have been allot of help on the injector problem, but it will be extremely helpful on other issues you might have. No affiliation; I just see it as a required tool if you own one of these cars, like a timing light.

Have you checked you gas tank if all your problems started when it ran out of gas maybe the tank is full of s**t and is clogging up your fuel system. Did you change the fuel filter .I know that's not much input but sometimes it's the little stuff that causes the biggest problems.

Thanks for the advice is tunerProRT hard to use because I don't know alot about cars but I am trying to learn so that I can do my own repairs. So yea I was wondering if it was hard to use. Thanks again
