Car won't start?
Hey guys, well heres my dillema. I was driving one day and my car just shut off, no sputter, nothing just dropped to 0 rpm. Well i went through all the basic stuff. I checked the whole ignition system, well most. New Cap, rotor, ign module, pickup coil, plugs, wires. it has a good spark. I then checked for fuel pressure at the rail, it had 43 psi, within range. So im trying to figure out what to do now. Im assuming its either the fuel injectors arent firing, or whatever controls them to fire is not giving a signal. Im checking for other fuel related issues, but any help u guys could give me is GREATLY appreciated.
p.s. its a 89 RS camaro with a v6 and 5 speed if that helps at all, thanks
Zach

If you are getting good spark then it has to be fuel. Check the signal going to the injectors with a noid light. Also, there is a fuse (Maybe 2) for the injectors. Also check the resistance on each of your injectors.
You did not mention if it currently starts or not.

No it does not currently start, when u say noid light, do u mean a test light? I will check the fuses for the injectors, i will also check the resistance at each injector, will it tell me the resistance for the injectors in the book, or do u guys have any clue what it might be? thanks,
Zach

Re: Car won't start?
a niod light is not a test light like you may be thinking but yes it tests the pulsed ground that is sent to the injector from the computer
what you do is plug the niod light into the injector clip in place of the injector and see if you get a flashing light- its making the pulsing ground.
no flashing and you beter buy a helms manual and check it out. unless your rich

Yeah, check your service manual for the resistance. It will tell you for sure. I think your injectors may need to be in the 11 to 14 ohm range. Don't quote me on that though.

Re: Car won't start?
Well guys i checked the injectors and they are getting the pulsed ground from the ecm, it has excellent spark, and fuel. So now im thinking its either a timing or compression issue. It has a timing chain so i highly doubt i broke the chain or jumped a tooth, I would have heard something, well usually. So now im going to check to make sure the timing is correct and that it has compression. And Yes it is cranking. Any more input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Zach

Re: Car won't start?
well it has compression, and im almost positive that its not the timing. Do you guys think it could possibly be the ECM?? I didnt think so b/c it was giving spark and fuel signals, but i dont know, Will any sensors make it not start, like oil pressure sensor etc. ???? i've done everything obvious. so now im almost stuck, Any more insight is GREATLY appreciated.

You have fuel at the rails, but is it getting into the cylinders?
Injector signal doesn't guarantee injectors are opening, if you can't spray fuel directly into the throttle body pour some in through the PCV hose
You're almost positive that it's not timing, be positive check it all it will cost you is time.

Re: Car won't start?
Just had a similar problem. Turns out the wiring harness was broken and shorted out one injector, also fried the ECM. Check the wiring to the injectors. A rebuilts ECM is $60 with a $40 core charge at O Rielly auto parts here. They have to order it though. If you have a buddy with a thirdgen you can borrow their ECM and put in your chip and try. I did this a while back and it showed the ECM bad.

Re: Car won't start?
did you check both sides of injectors with the niod light
do you have fuel preasure and then check resistance on the plugs
one bad fuel injector can ground out the circuit
take the injector plugs off one at a time and try starting. put them back on of course before taking another off
