Why do you want a 3,000 stall? Do you have an engine package that will take advantage of the higher stall? At any rate, you can get a converter from anywhere between 150 to 1000 bucks. Installed? probably up to another 500 for dropping the trans.

Re: How much for 3000 stall?

if you have any kind of garage and basic tools, do it yourself and save anywhere from 400-800 dollars. i've dropped mine half a dozen times. you will need a nice assortment of extensions however. we started with half inch drive ratchet and all extensions and downsized to 3/8 with all extensions we had there. we had to do that for the bell housing bolts and thats about it. other than that, its tranny crossmember, high pressure lines, driveshaft, fly-wheel bolts (kind of a pain), torque arm and shifter linkage, you might have to pull the dip stick too for clearance. obviously not in that order but all bolt in stuff. takes about three guys to drop it.
as for the 3000 stall, its recomended you use a cam to compliment stall. as evilcartman stated, you need the engine package to work with your stall. otherwise your just burning more gas spinning higher rpm. let us know more info.

question, a friend of mine and i are thinking about making a video how-to online for moding muscle cars. is this something worth our time? a couple videos have already been made including clutch install, window motor, intake, rear-end rebuild and an ltx motor drop/rebuild is in progress. some wanted things are; header install, port work on heads, suspension work and much more. would this interest/benefit anyone? any feedback or advice is appreciated.

Re: How much for 3000 stall?

I happen to have a 383, and I know for sure that a 3000 Stall converter would be way too much for my build.

The size of the engine does not provide good bases for the stall speed of your converter.
The stall speed of your converter has more to do with the power band of the engine.

A big help in determining the right stall speed of your converter is determining what camshaft you plan to use. You should be able to get some documentation from the cam manufacturer at that point to determine what stall speeds go with that cam. This can get you in the ball part. The best way I hear though is take the engine to a dyno first, find out where your power band is, and then pick the converter.

Time to go bench racing. Cam selection will dictate the proper stall. You should plan your 383 build now if you are going to buy a converter for it now.

Could you hold it a little closer to the screen? I'm having problems seeing it...
