Miles per tank
With gas on everyone's mind now, I'm wondering if my Camaro is on par with other 3rd gens. I get about 247 miles for a full tank of gas. What do you guys get?

really? I think it stinks, seems like I'm always at the gas station. Maybe I should be happy. It was worse until I added new injectors and new fuel regulator.

Re: Miles per tank
That's about what I get with mostly highway driving with my 83 H.O. 5 speed. That's with my AC running during the afternoon drive home. Comes to about 20 MPG.

Get about 325 miles out of a tank, that's combined highway and city driving, of course I have a 5.0 tbi though.

Re: Miles per tank
247 miles = 398 kms, not 600.
300-400 kms = 186 - 248 miles, not 100-150.
With that said, I did 225 miles (363 kms) last Sat and used 3/4 tank, but that was 80% highway. It's a QJet carbed 355 with T56 & 3.73 gears.

I get around 240 for a fillup that takes 11.5 gallons. I get about 20% or less highway. But i'm not sitting in traffic either.
but yea, this thread isn't gonna really say much. too much diversity and variables.

275-300 miles for me, 21 to 23 MPG avg. usually, and that's filling up with a few gallons left, have gone well over 400 miles on long trips.

Wow most of you on here are lucky in my opinion. I was getting 140-150 miles on a full tank before I got new injectors, headers, and some basic tune up stuff, but my odometer isn't working so I hope it's doing better now. Seems to be.
By the way, I was getting between like 10-13 mpg..

Re: Miles per tank
I usually get around 245-275 miles to a tank doing mostly hi-way driving. My fuel sender is broken so I fill it up when starts to stall while turning. Typically takes 14 gallons to fill it up if I remember right. LB9/700R4 2.73 rear.

Re: Miles per tank
If there is any debris inside the tank, your encouraging to get to the pickup. Yes, there is a filter. But your asking the filter to do extra duty.

Re: Miles per tank
15.9 according to the FSM. But, your not running it to EMPTY are yo? I'd suspect you probably have a half gallon, at least, at fill up time, huh? How much are you puttig in at fill up? Use that # to calculate your mileage, not the tank overall capacity.

Re: Miles per tank
hehe my old 305 was very tired and just didn't run right no matter what I did or shops tried. I actually get better mileage on my 385 fastburn than the 305 did. I get about 400km / tank (roughly 250 miles) and I'm almost in the "always looking at the gauge" zone hehe

Re: Miles per tank
miles per tank is meaningless. Some people fill up when they have 1/4 tank left. Some people run out of gas.
Some say 15.5 gallons, some have put 16 gallons in. Some can't get even close to 14 never mind 15.5
Driving across the country, at one point I was driving in Northwest Texas in the middle of nowhere. Fuel pump humming, doing everything I could to make it to a gas station, gauge below zero. Despite filling the tank after it clicked off and listening until I could hear the gas coming back up the filler neck, I still only wound up with 13.0 gallons of gas. I would never want to do that again. That was probably 15 minutes on the highway listening to that pump humming (and sweating bricks)
Most times I get around 11.5 gallons in there.

Re: Miles per tank
Just an FYI, if you find that the fuel tank can take more fuel then normal (whatever that is) it may be that the pump is off. Not unusual to find them rigged.
I found quite an increase in mileage by switching gas stations. The previous station now being out of business.
RBob.

I've tried pumping gas in stations from Vancouver to Houston. Same thing every time. 12 gallons is about as much as you can get unless you're doing something crazy.

Re: Miles per tank
On one note, I got about 260/mpt going from NY to English town. Mostly Highway. On another note entirely, the gas station by my house fills me up at 15.6 gallons if I'm on empty. Are you telling me I'm getting stolen from basically? Or are their pumps correct and thats the actual ammount of gasoline entering my car.

I hate my car.... normally I get maybe 200-220 miles when I fill up about 13gallons.
Most I ever got was 260 and that was like 80% highway and granny driving.

Re: Miles per tank
Hmm between city and highway I get from 200 to 225 miles on a tank. I run the car until the gauge is on E. For strictly highway driving for I get about 24mpg. That was when I drove from LA to Santa Cruz with a average speed of 85 mph. My car has over 160,000 miles, 24 pound injectors, edelbrock baseplate and slp runners, and with a 2.77 rear. I was happy with my results.

Re: Miles per tank
I'm doing 250 miles a week commuting. Approximately 9 miles each way is highway. The rest of my weekly mileage is errands ,etc. I fill up each week with 12.2-12.3 gallons. I total 240 - 260 miles in that time. Last week I calculated 24.01 MPG. My personal best. Don't run dry. Refill at 12 - 13 gallons. Save your pump and filter.

Re: Miles per tank
Yea actually i know a friend with an 89 iroc who ran her car out of gas at LEAST 25 times last year and now her car has been sitting in my yard for the past 6 months because of her fuel pump going out and her not having any money to fix it.Personally i have never ran out of gas in any car ive ever owned and the lowest ive had this car is probably in between a quarter of a tank and Empty.

Beside switching gas stations, how would one go about nailing the f*ckers if they are cheating me and everyone I know out of our hard earned money?

Me Too LOL!!!!!!!!!
Today
My 91 TA,305,TPI,3:08 gears,T-5, with 197K, took 14.3 gallons after 299 (20.9 mpg) miles of driving about 60/40 hwy/cty. With the SES (32 EGR) lots of gas tank pressure and leaving me stranded in 100 degree heat. Thinking I can do better with more attention to the engine.
Years ago....
My 85 TA,406,victor jr,holley 750,comp 292 cam (.244 @ .050),RPM heads,700R4, 3:23 gears. Twice on road trips triing to get good mileage and not opening the holley's up I got 18 mpg. This car now sits in pieces...to most fun in a car I've ever had !!!!!!!!!!
Cheers
