I replied on the other forum, but you're more likely to get answers here, so I'll put my replies here from now on.

I've taken those things out of every car I've ever owned that still had one. But if you must have the charcol cannister, just pull the line off and run a new one.

Re: found a few problems need help
from my limited understanding the coal canister (the black can) does a few things. I am only sure of one. Extra fuel vapor that is not burned off goes into the canister. It then goes from vapor to liquid state and goes back to the fuel tank. You loose it you have to put the line (the broken one when replaced) and connect it to the line that goes to the tank. Only thing is it's still a vapor and it can sit there and not go to the tank.
I took mine off my 84 El Camino b/c i was exempt from any emissions and it was in the way. My 91 is fuel injected and the computer controls the purge (or release of the fuel) from the tank. I don't want a SES light or anything to throw it off. I'd keep it. You don't gain anything but actually loose, in my opinion.

If you want to keep it, just run a new vaccum hose, it's like .25cent a foot.
