081 or 083 heads?

cannot find a hard deffinitive answer for this question altho i've searched extensively.

350 with a mild cam .... .450 lift at the valve, 218 duration @.050. intake lobe center of 102, exhaust lobe center of 110, LSA of course is then 106. just using a performer manifold for centerbolt heads and a 600 edelbrock carb.

i have 183 heads right now, swap to 081s or 083 for this camshaft?

An LSA of 106 is not a mild cam. Are you sure? Most "mild cams" have LSA's of 112 or higher.
Anyway, the hassle of swapping from one stock head to another is not worth the miniscule amount of power you'll gain, in my opinion.

Re: 081 or 083 heads?

i understand almost all sbc heads are not a performance head, my funds are just tapped out after professionally restoring the body and new rims/tires and the motor didnt hold to a good long power brake. just wanting to know what i need most until money permits me to buy a good set of heads this summer, the 081s for compression, or the 083s for the better valves to breathe better, gut says 083s, breathing usually helps more than compression, can anybody confirm by thoughts?

Re: 081 or 083 heads?

Have you calculated the CR for both sets of heads with that short block?
Do you have a grinder? Money to back cut the valves? Are you installing new valve springs, too? Pinning the rocker studs? Surface milling the heads?

You can use different thickness head gaskets to "massage" the CR between the two heads to get closer to what the engine wants. If you need the compression increased by using the 081s, then at least back cut the valves, do some pocket porting and some unshrouding of the valves in the combustion chamber. Will flow much better.

Oh ok, I thought you were swapping the heads with the engine in the car. In that case, go with the 1081 heads for a 305 and the 1083 heads for a 350.
