355 or 383????
What do you guys think should I build a 355 or a 383. My engine (95 LT1) is at the machine shop right now ready to be built I just need to decied what size to go with. My old set up was the lt1, ported heads and gasket matched intake, hot cam, all bolt ons, 52mm tb, long tube headers with cut out.......
The thing screamed at the track because the heads were milled to a compression ratio of 11.3-1. Now my original plan was to leave every thing the same build a all forged 355 with the same compression and spray 150-200shot through NX direct port system (I just installed). By going with a 355 it would run great with the same heads, cam, TB, and spray on top of that.
Now I am starting to think that while all that work to the bottom end is being done it would be a waist not to stroke it to a 383. The only things that I do not like about doing this is I think that the heads, cam , 52mm TB, stock 24lbs injectors would be to small for the 383. And it would not run as good untill I came up with the money to upgrade these parts.
I am also having traction problems as it is with no spray which is also why I originally wanted to build the 355 I dont need the extra torque the 383 will bring, and all suspension upgrades have bin installed, control arms, panhard bar, LCA relocation brakets, springs, shocks, sway bar, new posi, MT dot slicks?

383 hands down.
It will cost you about the same as a 355.
If traction is what is keeping you from your goals then you are doing something right. Do the 383, then work the suspension and chassis. It is better than working the chassis and then wishing you did a 383 later.

The heads should be okay for a 383.
If you drive this more than you run it at the track, a case could be made to keep it 350 and spray to the power level desired at the track.
The other side is to take the opportunity to put as much into it as possible while it's apart.

I guess what I want is for this thing to scream like it did last summer this summer. But next year I will add more to it like better heads cam etc... Should I do the 383 now and put it back togather with the top end I already have and buy a new top end next winter? Will it run ok this year? Will 24 lbs injectors be fine? Will the 52mm tb work? Or will I be choking the hell ot of this motor?
