Need help!!
Hey guys,
I am interested in purchasing an '87 Camaro Z28 with the LG4 motor. I just came back from viewing it and noticed that the tach and oil gauge are not working. The owner said that it stop working all of a sudden, so he installed another stock tach (which was working in another Camaro) and still does not work. So, he put back the original.
Did anyone experience this, or does anyone know if it is an electrical issue or does it have something to do with the ignition system? Does the oil gauge have anything to do with the igniition system? Or could it be a ground?
I really appreciate some assistance in this, as I would like to purchase this car, but I want to know if this is a minor thing.
Thanks in advance,
Benny

Very difficult to say. It could be as little as a poor connection at the I/P connectors, ground, or as much as a bad instrument. Since the tach was already changed, I'd tend to think the odds of two having been bad are slim, so it may be more in the connections or foil traces on the rear of the instruments:

Vader,
That instrument cluster is that from an '87 Camaro?

might want to bring a mechanical oil pressure gauge, that's one thing i'd want to know, faulty gauge or not.
Also, try using more detailed thread titles, "help" in a "help" forum is kinda meaningless...

Based on previous experiences I have had bad luck with oil senders and guages in our F-Cars. I ended up running my own.
