Car: 87 formula and 85 olds delta 88 2 d
Engine: 60's 350 holley carb and intake
Transmission: muncie 4 speed with centerforce
Axle/Gears: 3.42 99 camaro rear w/ discs
cold start now car is constantly trudging at idle need help

got a tricky problem...i have a firebird with a simple 350 edelbrock intake and carb and stock hei non-cc dist. new plugs new 8.8 wires and new cap and rotor....car was running great but after a cold start yesterday morning it was running rough...i tinkered with it and it cleared out and was fine...today same thing...probably choke needs to be adjusted but now i cant get it to run smooth at all???i swapped out one wire at a time to see if a wire went bad and that didnt change anything...and when i have the car running and hold a plug boot near the post it came off of, i can see the spark jump to it...on all 8? so my plugs are firing right? and all 8 header tubes are equally hot when i drip some water on them??? ...i just dont want to buy new 100.00 wires and plugs if its not the problem?? mabye a **** load of gas in one cylinder and its not igniting it all and not clearing out??? anyone havin this problem? even when hot feels like i just started it in -20 degree weather

ok did more work....bought new 8.8 accel wires and new delco plugs...put em in and the same thing...car is not smooth like it was now im thinking its in the carb?? the choke is electric and it is open and the motor is running at normal temperatures...it feels like you just started it up and its not ready to run yet....and i havent done anything different.... wires are in the corrct firing order...do the edelbrock 600's have any problems when it gets cold...i just started dropping below freezing 2 days ago when this happened... or could there be something in the distributor that just started going? its a non-computer hei stock with a msd top coil... and the car has been driven daily for a year now...always ran great...anyone please help

When you removed the old plugs, were any of them noticably different (Wet, sooted, oil fouled, damaged)? Have you inspected the distributor cap and rotor? Looked under the coil for moisture or carbon streaks?

If all that is intact, I'd suggest moving away from the ignition system and to the fuel system. From what I can tell, the Edelbrock 600 is a clone of the old Carter AFB. Make sure both floats are set correctly. Try idle mixture adjustment. If it's been running fine for a year, the jetting is probably close to correct. When you pull the top to check the floats, look n the bottom of the bowls for sediment, in case something got past the filter.

thanks vader....the car is running better...i did notice when i pulled all 8 plugs, mabye 3-4 were oily and black...the others were white and normal looking....my block has bad oil pressure and im just trying to get by for now and save for the 383 crate motor...the distributor looked ok...but i did gap my old plugs at .45 which might have been a lil to much for a stock hei...now they are .35 and running stronger...i guess mabye my motor will toast plugs if the choke isnt set correct
