Has anyone here tried the VVT shaft rockers?

I found this item while poking around. The idea may have some promise:

Engine: L98 (350 TPI)
Transmission: MD8 (700 R4) + 3.42 LS1 Rear
Something like Varible Valve Lift? I like it. Especially since it might work with conventional OHV engines. One thing I dislike is he externnaly mounted motor to operate ratio change feature. The only thing now how long will they last.....

Vader: This is unrelated to your post, but I was trying to answer a question about the Wells MAF, and the links to your comparison picture are no longer valid. I had thought I had copied it off, but can not find it. Do you have a different web space now?

Interesting site. I would like to see a set with 30k miles on them and see if it still works as well. We should ask hotrod magazine or some of the like to do 12 month torture test on some.

Wow, I can't believe that there wasn't more discussion on this.

I would love to pick these up, because when I did my cam swap, there were a lot of tradeoffs to look at, and this system would get rid of these.

I looked at the website, and it seems like they have been featured in some magazines already. Does anybody have these archived? I'd like to have a look at them. I'm going to email GMHTP, CHP, etc. to see if they want to do some testing. Do these magazines just pick up new products like this? I always assumed that there was a payola system with products they feature.

It looks like those hot rockers would suffer a lot of torture, if they really work like they should, I wonder how long they would last.

What I would like to see is a stock engine dyno, and then a dyno with those added. And then a lightly, medium, and heavily modded engine before and after dynos. That could be interesting.

As for the VVT setup, the external stepper motor is not the most convenient setup, but should be effective. At least the worm gear and most of the variable mechanism are exposed to a constant source of oil. And the rockers whould be more than adequate if they are a forged Cr/Mo steel - certainly better than any aluminum alloy.

I'm curious about how and when the timing drive motor gets stepped to increased lift and back. It seems like a purely RPM based system might not be the best, but would be a start.

How long before we see a version of this on the LS-engines? You think? Chevy must be drooling over this, since it would allow them to reatin the central camshaft and get a really good HP/CI output with smallish valves and good "daily" efficiency.

Obviously, innovation isn't dead.

Actually, GM is looking at the 'Displacement On Demand' form of getting the best emissions, power, and efficiency out of each powertrain platform.... For example, they have a 5.3L, LS1 style truck engine that runs on four cylinders and steps up to all eight on demand for added power when needed....

they are looking into putting this into the new vette motors that are "supposed" be able to compete against the viper with only 8 cylinders. This would be one of the only ways to cut down emission and keep federal standards
