Is this a normal reading?
Ok, i have a fairly new 350 bored 30 over and larger cam, etc. I had to replace the factory dip stick and tube when i got headers, but my question is i got a dipstick specified for my car but when i check the oil and the car is cold it reads like an 8th of an inch over full but then when its hot it reads like an 8th under. I was wondering if maybe its because the oil is thick so when its hot its still in the engine or what would cause this. Any help would be appreciated thanx.

When you run the engine, oil cylces around and inhibits all the various galleys, lifters, etc (warm reading). Once you turn it off and let it cool, oil returns to the pan (cold reading).

Ok, so then the fact i use 20/50 would be the delay in the return, thanks for your help.

Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
delay in the return
The answer of course is,
In the very hottest place in the motor: sitting on top of the heads.
You can bet your paycheck it's sure not in the oil pan.
Put a sensible kind of oil in it, everything about it will work better.

Ok. Well i was told by the guys that built my engine to use 20/50 in it during the summer and park it below 30* F. I get great pressure readings while moving and like 20-30 on a hot day idling, so im going to assume that i have nothing to worry about.
