Have a problem never experienced before

I ran into a problem working on my 84 today. I started it up and it idled fine for a few minutes so i revved it a little and after about 1600rpms it blew about 2 quarts of oil out of the oil filter seal. It took me 2 hours to find out where it was coming from because it hit the flywheel and went all over the underneath of the car. my dad seen it happen so we checked the oil level 2 quarts low so we added to quarts. cranked on the oil filter alot tighter than before and tried again. Same thing only about 1800 rpms. I bought another new filter and repeated it once more bam 1800 rpms same thing. The only thing we could come up with is the oil bypass is blocked? Any ideas?

So its blowing out from the rubber seal on the filter??
Whats pressure gauge reading?

maybe the filter adapter is loose, pull the filter and check the 2 bolts holding the adapter on.

yeah it all the sudden just blows a whole lot of oil out of the seal i checked the bolts early i thought the same thing. I've got a spare adapter on another block that I can use. I just dont want to replace it if its not needed. The oil pressure is at 40psi

only time I saw this done was at a shop where I worked the guy doing the oil change didn't notice that the old filter gasket was stuck on the base and when he put the other one on it sprayed everywhere.

That's your problem right there. The filter is ONLY supposed to go on until the gasket touches, then 1/4 to 1/2 turn more. Cranking it on there is the reason I got my Camaro for only $700. The gasket squishes instead of seals.

Revving the engine while it's cold is a no-no.

i made sure the old gasket was gone. It didnt rev it until it had idled over 5 minutes. And it was only to 2k rpms. The filter is only on there as tight as i can put it on with my hand which is quite a bit. I always set my filters 1/2 turn after contact but in this case it didn't work. I changed the adapter/bypass and it didn't blow the oil out at 2k rpms out but my oil pressure is like 80psi nowand it's still 1/2 qt low....

Sounds like the bypass valve in the oil pump may be stuck shut.

RBob.

is the bypass valve on the adapter that bolts to the block that the oil filter screws on to? If so then I already changed that out as i said. And highly doubt 2 of them would be faulty.

No that's the oil cooler.

RBob.
The oil filter also has an internal bypass valve, which can also get stuck, even on a new filter.

that won't be to bad then all i have to do is unbolt the motor lift it up enough to get the oil pan out and change the pump right? And if needed drop the K-member cause I'm not unbolting the trans that was a PITA.
