What was the first production year for turbocharged Buick 231 V-6 engines?
Extra Credit: What is required to adapt one of the old "big" chargers to the later system?

89,
Good call on the '78 Regal. That I already knew, but was hoping someone had converted the older turbo to a newer system. I have a line on a Regal system and have been thinking about incorporating it into a project.
The boost control system is largely mechanical and should work well as a retrofit. Anyone else tried this?

just a WAG but i'll go with 84 or 85. never owned one or been in one, not that i wouldn't like to. i've thought about selling or trading my 68ss for a GN. i remember seeing buddy ingersol at the us nationals in 85 (i think) with his twin turbo twin intercooler buick regal. i loved that car and to watch it run ets and trap speeds close to pro stock cars with twice the engine. i was at the winston points race at indy in may of 87 when he ran his skyhawk for the first time, twin turbo twin intercoolers. it ran a 7.19 @ 198 if i remember correctly and he had to pedal the car all the way down the track and still set the national record for aa/t class. if he could of kept it hooked up it would of ran in the 6's and i think been the first door slammer to run sub7 et's. damn i wish i had a v6 to play with.

I used to have a 79 Regal Turbo Coupe. Pain in the *** . Yeah, it pulled strong and was not effected at altitude as much as carb cars, but working on the engine was an absolute nightmare. It always had a knock problem under hard acceleration, even with premium gas. It was also very unreliable. Stuff was always breaking. And it had a perpetual oil leak from the valve cover gaskets. Too many damn hoses, you couldn't see the engine for all the hoses and pipes.
I would never even consider buying another.
Just my 2 cents.

I have a Buick T-Type. It is a 1986 intercooled 3.8 V6. I was at the track a couple of weeks ago. My goal was to run in the 12's on my street tires. After two tries I had to lower the boost to keep from hitting the wall in 2nd gear due to extreme wheel spin. After having to lift in 2nd gear on the third run I finally posted a 13.54 @ 106 MPH. I either need better street tires or less power. I wish my TA would run like that.
