305 needs help
I have rebuilt my carb, and now it starts good every time especially since the choke is fully functional. the timing has been advanced. it is the base 305 not the HO. ( LG4??) I am looking to add headers soon but what else can i do for more power on a 305? will heads intake and cam be good or should I just look for a 350? I would like to get at least 300hp.

Horsepower is what sells cars. TORQUE is what moves them.
I'm thinking that 300hp is quite a stretch for a 305. By the time you dump all that money into a 302 you could have had a nice 350 built up, which is easier to get horsepower(300 like you said).

That really isn't true. As long as you don't have to put any money into the shortblock, you can get more power out of the 305 you have than you can for the same money by putting in a 350.
Why? Because in order for the 350 to make any kind of power, you'd have to replace the same things that are now slowing down the 305. The combo in the sig puts out about 250 rear wheel HP using generally accepted conversion forumlas, with the stock shortblock. 300 gross flywheel horsepower is easily obtainable with cam, exhaust, air cleaner, and head work.
