You don't drive Camaros in the snow and ice.

Real snow tires (on all 4 wheels) like the "Blizzak" tires will help some, but expect no miracles. V8 engines driving the rear wheels with no weight over them does not make for a fun winter driver.

In my old Camaro I used to a 50 lb salt block on each side of the cargo area. it helped a little.

That was a carbed and nearly stock motor. Got real fun when the choke would stick (usually about once a month).

Now that I hvae TPI and enhanced motor, no way in heck are you going to find it on the road, part of the lesson learned from my other camaro: road salt + unibody = subframe rot & seperation.

Took 7 years, but atleast I finally got another one.

I never had a problem.

I told you before Shane, get something else for the winter, you'll kill yourself in that car with the limited experience you have behind the wheel in the snow.

Shane, this thread belongs in the Mid-West board, not on general tech/engine. Follow the board rules, please.

As far as driving in the snow, I have lived here my whole life. I have driven in St. Louis, in the snow, in my F-body for many years. Drive like you have at least half a brain(sometimes difficult, I am sure) and its not a big deal. Dont try to speed up quickly, drive slow and cautiously, and hopefully you wont add to the headache of all the stupid drivers. The rear of your car will not "kick out sideways" unless you are driving like an asshat.

*** help everyone here. Please people, pray for us, Shane is driving here in snow.

Perhaps you shouldn't ask questions like that with the "reputation" that you've earned here.

Well theres your problem, those are summer only tires, they should not even be used in weather below 50*. When those tires get cold the become like glass, really hard and have absolutely no traction.

You've got the wrong tires on there.

With all-season tires i usually don't have a problem around town (35mph) but if i was gonna drive somewhere it would definitely have snow tires. Preferably studded. Or don't drive it at all, get something fwd for the snow.

Doh...you guys stole my thunder...

Yes Shane...you need S N O W tires...I would try the Kumho snow tires at tirerack.com...you can't beat the price...

You want a narrower tire for snow and they make it in the 215/65/15 size so you can get a cheap set of 15s from a junkyard...

PLUS...add some weight in the trunk.

If you properly equip your car, you can drive in the winter...what did people do in the 1960's and 1970's? They didn't stay home

if you would just learn to drive on dry pavement then maybe the slick stuff wouldnt be so bad...LOL

as far as snow tires ive driven rear wheel drive camaro's, firebirds, and many other rwd vehicles in the winter just throw a hundred or so pounds of sand bags in the rear of the car and drive like you have a brain and you will be okay just remember you always have to slow down alot earlier than you do normally

iunno and yeah this doesnt belong in the Tech/General Engine board ...d00d

I drove a 4 hour road trip with bald rears, i mean BALD (you could see steel) through a blizzard, in fog at 3am up in the mountains in a corvette. I had no choice i had to go. I drove slow about 1/3 the speed limit and didnt have a single problem even driving on sheets of ice. You need to realize that the car will not turn with any accuracy going any speed above 20mph, and plan your moves in advance. Never ever give it any throttle unless you are perfectly straight.

Find a parking lot and see how it responds to different throttle and steering inputs before you try it on the freeway.

I drove my 87 camaro daily through all of the snow 65 miles each way to work in College and work in St. Louis. Quit whining shane.

I'm guessing that this one will be locked soon, like most of shanes Off-topic threads.

Jeff, he's in Illinois or something like.

Getting a beater was previously mentioned (and recommended) and IIRC he was to 'rent' his Dad's truck.

if all you want to do is have some take off traction and keep the *** in place then the rear. if you want to be able to do that PLUS steer and stop then get all 4, still at that do not drive like its dry out.

because your on here complaining about lack of traction?

you have to be joking, you wonder why your SUMMER tires don't do well in snow, and you wonder why you start renting because its not full blown yet?

No matter what your rear tires are worthless in the cold, snow... They are summer tires only. Don't even try driving with them anymore. You could find some cheap all-season tires and use them, you could even use used tires in the rear.

they are for light snow, since you get heavy snow, its a no.

try these

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

dunlop makes one hell of a tire and at only 10 bucks more a tire its well worth it, then you take em off the rims and put em back on next year

its not that difficult to drive on snow its pretty simple ...and as a side note your always going to have tire spin in your car on the snow man so just relax and drive slow ....

or umm iunno start renting the rents truk but iunno if you should umm iunno d00d...

You absolutely can't drive with those tires. Summer only..

Go to a tire place and see what you can get used. You don't need much just a set of used all-season or snow tires. THey only cost $10-15.

No way your going anywhere with those tires.

Any tire place will have piles of them.

look for 215/65-15, 205/70-15, 195/75-15

well are your rims 15 or 16"?

if they are 16" get a set of 15" rims from a junkyard and mount the snow tires.

i know when i first had 15" tires my car was great in the snow, now with the 16", well it'll handle like my buddys 89 gta. its the difference between and ice skate and a sleigh

i'll just shop around for some 16" snow tires that are used....

i dont really want to down grade to 15" just for the summer then have to sell those rims even cheaper then i bought them for.... so....

hello do your home work read you posts... kdw's are dry tires ok in wet but forget the snow they won;t work for you either....so even thought they cost more it will be wasted money.. get winter tires on steel rims leave em mounted all year swap em on in the winter.

It will cost the same or more to get your tires mounted, balanced, dismounted, remounted, then it would just to get some crap steel rims and mount the tires once.
