how do i know they will fit our cars?

the local shop said $10 to mount a tire to another customer while i was waiting.... so thats $40 for a set, so $80 by thre time the total investment is over. If i can find 4 steel rims for less then 40, maybe otherwise its not worth it...

Shane, you have a hard time seeing the big picture huh?

----
Little tidbit of useless knowledge, the thinner the tire, the better it does in the snow, esp. the thick stuff. That's one of the reasons that they had a bit easier time back in the day. The weight of the cars may have helped too.

drivin an f-car in the snow isnt hard if you arnt a retard, sure its probably difficult for an inexperienced driver but im sure most of us here have never had a problem, the only real obsticle is the ride height when you have a decent amount of snow on the ground..

do the math here... you can get a FWD crap car that still runs (barely) for about 300 dollars... since you have liability coverage, I'm also guessing you have a 500 dollars deductible (I think that's the highest allstate gives).

Now... if you get into an accident you're paying 500 dollars no matter what, unless the damage to the other person's car is less than that.

So... which is better, 300 now... or 500 later?

Call around for "snow wheels" they are crappy steel wheels. Also the place you call will tell you if the tires will fit. Call tire places, junk yard, used parts places.....

You're really having trouble??? I had to drive my Monte in the snow in my first 6 months of driving and had no trouble even on crappy tires. You're car doesn't exactly have monstrous power so the wheels should be spinning too much unless like the guys said-you're hitting the throttle. Even in my LT1 i have no problems with wet weather driving. If i didn't have two other cars that i was trying to get rid of, i'd get a Honda CRX. They get really good gas mileage and they're great in the bad weather not to mention there are tons of them with 5 speed manuals and manual tranny's are better for crappy weather. Think about it and good luck.

It's so tempting to throw away my moderator duties and risk getting banned just to chew you out Shane. Put the keyboard away, call your local garages and tire shops, and tell them you need used snow tires and steel wheels for your car. They do the rest. Christ...

Oh, and yes, PLEASE wash your car with warm water when you get home one day when it's 20 degrees out. PLEASE??! I really want to see the "Why'd my windshield explode?" thread.

no all of these were stamped i believe 15x7 inside no difference in the offset when i measured them either on the 15" rims we had on our 84 z they were the same way no difference in width or offset...maybe the 16" rims are different in offset but i do believe the 15" rims are not ......

maybe someone else can chime in here and solve this delima....LOL

but as said before you would be better off just driving slow and not hammering it when you take off

for crying out loud you only have a 305 and its stock .....LOL

not a powerhouse persay

Haterz!

ME got it, 16's were different front to back, 15's were not. Doesn't matter, because you more than likely will do nothing with this information as well. Go get the rims from General and go get something to put on 'em, or take your car off the road for the winter and buy an escort or taurus as a winter beater, that way you don't pay 'extra' for the second car.

exactly, Red Devil. Your insurance will be less with the FWD rust bucket than it is for your Firebird... insurance companies see the F-bodies as "Sports Cars" (or atleast that's what mine told me), so yours is going to cost more in insurance.. take it off, replace it with whatever car, and you'll be paying even less.

Geez.........I drove mine around on all seasons with no extra weight in the car and had no problems. Even managed to keep her on the road in snow deep enough to scrape the bottom of the car during my second winter of driving it. I just took my time and got every where I needed to go without any problems (actually it was kinda fun when the rear slid around on a couple of occasions). The last few years, I put the car away and drive something else (just because the salt on the roads up here in the Canadian Maritime provinces kills the cars!)

Do yourself a huge favour - at least slap a good set of all seasons (preferably winter) on it

Good luck - you may want to take the car out sometime to an empty parking lot and play around in the snow - get used to the how the car acts in the snow.....I actually had a bit of fun driving mine in the winter, once I got used to how to control the car when it kicked out. I kind of miss it.

You can't drive with summer only tires, nomatter what people say. They are not talking about your tires, they are talking about all-season or all-season performance, not your summer only tires.

Your gonna die d00d and kill others d00d.
