This was after my fuel pump died. I went ahead and stuck in a better tank while I was at it. I like the results.

The argument was that some better tanks were baffled better than others and some had a plastic sump where others did not. But both of these are baffled the same inside, the difference that you can see in the pictures is the height and design of the plastic piece inside. I wish I could look at a 1LE tank to compare notes..

Anyone have the knowledge?

anybody have part #'s for a 92 baffled tank. my 89 tank is leaking, and I plan to replace it. Not that I want too, but the smell is terrible.

That is the part # of the 92 tank I used.

Can anyone post a similar pic of a 1LE tank, or one from an 82-84?

The later years of 3rd gen production they used some (all?) of the baffling technology derived from the 1-LE racing tank in the run-of-the-mill gas tank. I remember reading about the problem of fuel starvation with the in-tank electric pumps below 1/4 tank of gas which the 1-LE tank fixed. Later models of the 3rd gen, even the base models, got upgraded fuel tanks with baffles.

when you swapped gas tanks, did you need to change the pickup, and sender, or just the actual tank itself?

Hey JZA, ever get to check out a 1LE tank to compare? The reason i ask is b/c if i can get this "1LE" tank for cheap, not $240+ new, then i will swap it too when i do my fuel pump. Even if it just turns out to be a 89-up tank, its still better than my 86, right? I'll have to ask the guy more questions about the tank before i buy it but i want to double check here first. While doing a search i came across a few part numbers. 1LE tank:12509285, baffled tank:10269091, sending unit:25027221, special strainer?:25027354. Now, when you did your swap, you used all of your stock stuff, like the sending unit, right? It should all fit together, i can't see why they would go out of their way like that for this type of stuff, but maybe they did! All i am looking to buy is this "1LE" tank and a new fuel pump. I should be fine with this, correct? My car has 81k miles on it and i have had no other problems with the tank or fuel system. Just upgrading the pump for security and i would be upgrading to this new tank b/c its cheap, "new", better, and convenient right now. Let me know what you think, thanks for your time.
