about fuel tanks

I still can't get a clear-cut answer on different year fuel tanks.

So far my consensus from archive digging and asking around is: thirdgens 84-up with performance package, and all 90-up got the baffled fuel tanks.

All I know is that my 89 RS cuts out around corners when low on gas, and my 86 Z-28 does not with the even less fuel and in harder turns.

I just got a tank from a 92 Z-28 and I can see inside it had baffles and a little plastic "reservoir" inside it. Haven't gotten around to pulling my 89's tank yet to compare, so here I am.

Tell me I didn't waste the $35 for the tank.

i welded a sump on the tank in my 85 SC camaro and it had steel baffel and the plastic thing like yours. i'm sure mine isn't a "preformance" gas tank and others may be better baffeled. if you're running SCCA or something similar i'd look in to a sump or whatever the other guys use. if you're talking about street driving i'd look for another problem and keep my tank above 1/4, actually i try not to run my cars and truck below 1/2 a tank except on road trips.

Thanks for the reply, ede. Nah, I'm not looking for a problem, just an upgrade. I've gotten the 89 pulling some serious lateral G's now, and plan to compete once or twice eventually.

I'll just see once I drop the tank from the RS. The place I got the tank from asked me what I had and I told him. He looked up the tank, then I said I wanted one from a 92Z, and he pulled up a different one, that he said was for 90-up Camaro/Firebirds with the performance package, and 87 Turbo Firebirds.
But we all know how those computers are sometimes. It was only 35 bucks, and I have to change the fuel pump anyway, so even if it's the same tank, I'm not out much and I've gained some more knowledge.
