set timing

someone is bound to be able to help on this subject.
I've recently done a few minor "mods" to my '88 iroc-z 305 tpi. I've put Edelbrock headers (which include the AIR tube hook-ups), air foil, fan switch, Bosch platinum plugs, underdrive pulleys and Accel 8.8mm wires. All these items were added at the same time. When I fired it up the first time, everything seemed to be o.k. I didn't have my y-pipe connected yet, so I took it down the road for a test (the neighbors didn't care for that much). I noticed a big difference in "wot". I also noticed it seemed to be missing at idle and low rpm. I checked all my hook-ups (again) and all was o.k. To make a long story short (too late), could these additions have caused the computer to mis-read the timing? If so, can you loosen the distributor tie-down bolt and set it according to sound and road tests without messing up the computer? I understand all an aftermarket chip does is change the timing. Bring it on experts!

set or change the timing with a light so you're not guessing at what you have

Hey there, welding expert (ha!ha). I knew you would reply. I've never used a timing light before ( I guess I should learn), because, unless I absolutely have to, I don't want physical help with this car ( a "pride" thing. I guess). Noone, but ***, knows I get my info from these boards.
Seriously, do mods like these actually change timing?

the base would be fixed and the total would be fix all the incrimentals could come in at a differant time than before. i tihnk the smart thing to do would be change the base 2* at a tiem and see what it feels like. timing light is pretty simple to use, should come with instructions. then check your manual on how to set timing or do a search here.

Doing the mods u did couldnt have changed the timing. You can check it but it will probably be close enuf. If it were my car id get rid of those platinum plugs. They dont really belong in a car that didnt have them from the factory. Try the old ones and see if that fixes your problem. You did keep the old ones right hehe.

To be totally honest, I used plantinum because of listening to people on these different boards. This was before the "bosch sux" topic found on this board a few weeks ago. And no, I didn't keep the old ones ha!ha!
