Engine hoist attachments

I've got a fully dressed (all accessories and TPI in place) engine that I'm changing the motor mounts on while I've got the control arms out. I'm having some trouble finding a good place on each side of the engine to hook up the engine hoist chain to in order to lift the engine up enough to get the motor mounts out. I am planning to do only one side at a time. Any ideas?

I was considering putting the chain on an exhaust manifold bolt, but even that is tough to get to on the right side with the heater control valve and the rest of the accessories in place. The exhaust manifold bolts are a little small for this anyway. Intake manifold bolts are impossible to get to unless I pull the plenum and runners. None of the holes on the front of the heads are available unless I pull the brackets.

i would go for the head bolt pull off the ac bracket and the alt bracket not that hard to get at. if you try the exhaust bolts if they are anything like mine were they will break since the heat cycles rust them up so bad.

i have a couple of angle clips with holes drilled in them to bolt where ever i need, also a couple of flat pieces of steel, and maybe 10 of the factory lugs. couple short pieces of chain, repair links and a couple longer pieces of chain and one way or another i can usually take care of any engine lifting that i need to do. i never have trusted the adapter that bolts to the intake in place of the carb, but i see lot of people use them.

If the car had a carb it would be so easy...

If I can tie the hoist short enough without hitting the hood I might try using the accessory bolt holes in the heads back by the firewall. The sections of steel plate is a nice idea.

What happend to the OEM lift points? One is hidden fairly well. I personally would not attach anything to an exhuast component. If the rare occasion pops up there is nothing at all to attach a chain to I use the brackets the come with the crate engines basicly what Ede uses but better.

If the TPI engine has any, I'm not seeing them...at least not lugs like I've seen on other engines. Since I haven't seen them, I assumed that everyone uses accessory or intake bolt holes when pulling the engine. Since my engine still has everything on it even those aren't readily accessible.

I'll take a look at the accessory bolt holes on the back of the heads by the firewall tonight. Hopefully the hoist will clear if I can tie it low enough.

The hidden one is behind the AIR tube and wire mess on the pass side head. Its hidden very well to the point you cant see it until you move almost all the junk out of the way. Im not sure in the front point since I havent messed with an 88 serp setup but the older TPIs the AC/PS bracket assembly has a lift provision.
