Coolant temp. sensor?

What's the deal? Is there one sensor for the ECM and a seperate one for the dash gauge?

Where's the gauge sensor?

On my 87 L98, it's between the plugs for cylinders 1 and 3.

Yes there are two separate sensors. The CTS is in the front of the engine in the base manifold. Remove the Serpentine belt and you should see it.

The one for the guage is between cyls #1 and #3 as previously mentioned.

There is also a third sensor on some cars for the fan, between the #6 and #8 plugs.
