Location of #1 cyl. on LG4

Stupid questions, I know... but I'm having trouble starting my 83 TA (305, 5spd) after installing a new cam and distributor. I set TDC using the front drivers-side cylinder, is that the #1? Thanks.

Transmission: Pro-built 700R4
Yep,front driver side cylinder is number one. Make sure is on top dead center on the compresion stroke or you'll be out 180 degrees.

Thanks, It could be out 180 but it seems to sputter a bit but never really gets going. I've moved the distributor a bit each way but no dice, it is getting fire though. I think I may pull the distributor and reset the engine to TDC and try again.
