I broke something again. Please help.

I just broke something again. I was out racing some honda prelude, i take off from a stop and there is a massive "clunk" from what felt like the rear end. I baby the car to a gas station. Get out, look around, don't see nothing. I figured i hit a big pot hole or something. I get back on the road, take off kinda hard again, and it does it again. So i just start babying it to get home, but its acting wierd. Like, once it shifts into OD, if i let off the gas, it kinda feels like im pushing on the brake, like the car dives. so im driving along getting more & more scared. Then my Service engine light comes on, and i look behind me and see clouds of smoke. I pull over and see the smoke coming from my hood. I pop the hood, and the smoke is coming from the passenger side, down where the tranny bolts to the motor. Then i look under neath the car and find some tranny fluid on the ground.

So I babied it home. I am really worried. What do you guys think happened? I cant check it out yet, because there are cars being worked on in my garage. Thanks for any help.

Well, I'd say a transmission mount for the thunk but almost sounds like you've done more damage than that.

i am pretty sure its no tranny mount. i have a poly one on it, and its pretty new. plus the clunk sounded alot more severe than just the tranny hittin the bottom of the car.

Heh, maybe you ought to go through your whole drivetrain before you get waxed by another hondog.

Probably a U joint failure.

I vote that you smoked your stock torque converter and leaked out the fluid in it and then it over heated. I blew a converter once and when the car was in drive I had to really fight it to get the car to stop.

I'd say you simply tore the tranny out of it... I did it once, heard a hellacious CLUNK! the next morning started it up, and all I had was drive. no reverse. no neutral. when i pulled the dipstick and smelled the tranny fluid it smelled thoroughly cooked. then I just switched it to a 5-speed. much better

Hehe I've done that too... rolling start in 1st, punched it BOOOOOOOOOOOM sounded like a big gunshot. Worst part was the road was downhill. Tried to stop for my turn, couldn't... whipped it into a parking lot down at the bottom and called for a tow. All the fluid went bye bye in a matter of seconds and left a cool pattern on the road 3 foot wide

thanks for the suggestions. this tranny is new. rebuilt B4C with only about 1k on it. the tranny shifts fine. we jacked the car up, i see tranny fluid on the exhaust, but the tranny is very clean. I cant find where the hell it is leaking from. Everything looks really clean, but there is tranny fluid on the back of the motor, and on the exhaust. i have no idea where it is leaking. lines look good, dipstick is fine. im lost.

speedo cable is clean. i am going to rip in to it tonight and see what i can find. i have a bad feeling on this one though. I don't know what the hell the bad sound from the rear was. my only guess is its something with the tc.

Check the torque arm mount, may have grenaded and whacked the pan somehow.

i bet you its the tranny mount. mine goes all the time. id say every ten or fifteen thousand. its a very common thing among thirdgen's. i would get a mount with a lifetime warranty that way your not spending money every couple thousand miles. even still there cheap, only 10 bucks at the most. have it checked out. peace

ok its NOT the tranny mount. i have a poly mount on there that only has about 1k on it. Definately not something that simple....

After I took the car out to see if i could determine what it was, it slipped really bad then CLUNK very very hard, and now OD is gone. If i put the car in OD, the car doesnt move. Something is screwed up badly. It's weird, the tranny was shifting great, no problems at all, then all of a sudden, when i took off i heard a BAD clunk. then the tranny fluid bubbled out of the dipstick, and now OD isnt there.
