Help with distributor

One question .... I know that one other cars I have had, the distributor is supposed to sprung, as in if you held it in a position and turned the rotor it would spring back to where it started. If that makes sense, and I have been having trouble getting it to start... for days now. And now I am to this, the rotor doesn't have that spring back action.

I will look in the manual I got but its something simple that I am sure any one could tell me..... just want to make sure, doesn't hurt to ask.

And would the car just not start because of this, I have spark and fuel..... and am in the process of resetting timing

thanks
adam

The spring back action comes from the mechanical advance, which your distributor won't have if the car is computer controlled.
