Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
depends on where you cylinders are sitting in relationship to your rotor

in other words..........there is no one way for the distributor to go in

Well, lets just assume that the engine and the ignition system is stock, and that it was just disconnected (Not pulled out of the engine bay). Then which part of the cap would point towards the back of the car, or which part would point forward? Like would the Flat part in the picture point to where?

Ok so maybe you don't get what I am saying not be a jerk, but my dist was never pulled out, I just removed the cap to take the pic. I removed all the wires and forgot where the wires went...

The dist should still be in TDC, but I turned the dist so if you look on dist and at the screws in the cap, can you please tell me where the wires would be .....

THE DIST WAS NEVER PULLED OUT, IT IS STILL AT TDC, JUST that I turned the dist and don't remember which way the dist cap was facing to replace the wires.

All dist go in one way, at TDC...

Please and thanks

IIRC it will be directly to the right of the line in the center of the top.

Another thing do you think it could be that the timing chain could have broke or jumped teeth?

The valves move, and dist turns, I get spark , and smell fuel.... I am at a lose....

I am gonna go back to my rotory engines...

just be cool and listen to our advice

heres what to do

turn the motor over by hand

line up the mark on the balancer to TDC 0*

install the cap with the rotor underneath the #1 wire

if this doesnt work, you know you have it 180* and just have to rotate your wires accordingly

i just did the same thing the other day

I must be a wuss.... I have tired the car in netural, or park and can't budge the motor to turn it over, I will try it with a wrench.... but I don't know, I don't consider myself weak, but damn.... maybe I am doing something screwed up....

I know the timing is way off, and I know that it just needs to be reset back to zero.. I am gonna go out and try this now, until I get it ...... and get it right.

Does the motor turn easy, or does it take some sack? Should the motor turn easy, I know the rotory motors I have all turn with one hand, but they are for manual cars, and my camaro isn't manual (given the engine is bigger) and the camaro is also fuel injected... don't know if that matters.... I can set the timing on my rotorys with the simplest of ease... this is killing me....

Please and thanks

Ok..... got the dist set back to 0* and it will somewhat idle and somewhat wanna die, I have tried to set timing but only got a little better.

What happens is that when I go to give it gas the car starts to back fire, even with the littlest amout of gas? Is this what is ment by having the dist out 180* ? It does start, just it will idle and go to die and come back up, real smooth though.... sometimes it will die..... could the fuel filter be cloged, I think I will just change it anyways... I am gonna check voltage on fuel pump as well, its supposed to be a ful 12v right.

Ok, I tried flipping the dist 180* it just backfired, wouldn't start at all..... Could it be ignition controller? EST? Not enough fuel? I still haven't got the filter cause no way to get to the auto store, but later tonight I can bum a ride and hopefully get there in time.
