Zexel Torsen install

Installing the take off Zexel differential from
SLP and 28 spline Moser c-clip axles. Just removed the c-clips from the old rear and immediately noticed they will not fit into the tiny c-clip slots on the Zexel. Does the Zexel have different clips ?

Also noticed when I slid the new axles into the
Zexel just to see how they fit, the slot on the end of the axle does not come into view. I do not
see any way that any c-clip will slide in and
secure the axle. Looks like the piece that the
cross shaft bolt retains is incorrect?

Are you trying to install 3rd gen 28 spline axles into a 4th gen rear? This will make the axles a little shorter than before...

I had no problems with the stock 28 spline axles in an 89 rear.

I have the correct size axles for a third gen. And
the rear is the one that came in the car (84). The
only part from 4th gen is the Zexel differential.
Seems to be an incompatablity between the axle
ends and the differential.

How much did the new axles cost you? I have a 88 rear so I have the 26 splines. I would like to upgrade to 28 spline axles and run a zexel differential also. If not I guess I can go to a junk yard and try to find a newer model axle again. So far Ive had 0 luck with that. Local place wanted 350$ for a 95 v6 rear with drums. Oh plus trade in LOL

Hey, all the Zexel Torsen owners, someone has to have some enlighting info.
Are the c-clips different from a 3rd gen to a 4th
gen rear?

Got it, little block thing comes out, c-clips go on,
block thing goes back in.
Next thing I noticed, when comparing axles, the Mosers
are about 1/8 inch longer to the outside flange. This will
make the brake discs stick out and possibly interfere
with the calipers.

I might just try to find a newer rear so I dont have to swap the axles. If I can find a decent rear anyways. Im having trouble.

I finally got my tranny. Installing it tomorrow. It will be nice to have my wheels again.
