just a simple question, i would like to run a filter that is bigger than that tiny half qaurt or less thing that is factory on our cars, you a know the ph30, and since a small block is a small block, and trucks and all kinds of other things had them too........what one uses a big filter......like the biggest i can run in the stock location. the car has a 5 speed now, and i have yet to change the oil so i don't know if i have to worry about slavecylinder clearance or not.......

You don't want "the biggest" one that will fit, it will literally drag the ground.

The one to get is the PF-35 and its variants. The PF-35L is the same except synthetic media, and the PF-1218 is the same except a different (better) anti-drainback valve. These all fit with no interference to anything, and come to about an inch above the bottom of the oil pan.

Agreed. The part numbers that RB83L69 quoted are for the Delco filters. You can't go wrong with the Delcos. I run delco filters on all of my vehicles except for my IROC. For the IROC, I overpay for a K&N that, although realistically gives me no real benefit, gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that I'm getting better protection by paying $10 for my filter. Incase you want to do the same, the K&N equivalent of Delco's PF35 is the 3002.

Turns out AC Delco and Wix are top choices.

very interesting information........

i kinda figured a filter is just a filter and that article proves that in many cases that thought is true, but some a truly different.

i think i am going to go ahead a try the delco filter this time around. it makes sense to me since many factory installed things are made by delco as well,......spark plugs and such who knows maybe even the oil filter

i have never paid much attention, and picked up using fram from my relatives who swear by them

Print off some of the article for your relatives. Tell them that since Allied Signal acquired Fram that their quality has really fallen off. They're so bad, even Chrysler won't use them now - that's BAD...

in fram's defense i will say this: i work for the parent company (honeywell) and we use the standard orange fram filters on all our dynos. these engines run 24 hours a day 7 days a week, often at 4500rpm and we have never had a problem due the oil filter. i'm not saying they're good or bad necessarily, just that as long as you maintain your vehicle properly you'll be fine with whatever you choose. *flamesuit on*

I didn't read the whole article... which did they determine as the best? Mobil 1? I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about Mobil 1 (albiet expensive), I'm thinking about switching to Mobil 1 products...

Mobil 1 + 305TPI = run forever...?

I use the K&N for my 350, never have any problems getting it off, with the design style it has.
