strange lighting problem with cluster

I'm in an 87' Sport Coupe LT.

Okay, I just bought my car about 1 week ago and have been working on it non-stop.
Enter background of problem:
So I'm tearing apart my dash to find a short in my accessories (turned out to be a bent prong in my lighter)
So I start to put my dash back together again... only now I'm having a serious problem: when I turn on my lights, both turn arrows and my brights lights in my cluster light up instead of the front lit bulbs in the cluster. My turn signals are about 1/2 the speed that they're supposed to be. When I turn my lights switch to turn on the lights in the cockpit, my turn signals only get brighter (they're not blinking, they're just... on. but when I signal they just blink off)
Just last saturday, I was tinkering around with a new stereo system I bought and that night when I was driving it home, everything popped into place and lit up like nothing ever happened (but my dash was torn apart again).
So I'm driving without worries thinking that everything just sortof was kinked or something...
Enter problem:
But just tonight, I was cleaning my car out (doing a steam clean with some quick'n'brite) and I decide that since I'm done messing with the console, I might as well put everything back together again... only I had some errands to run downtown 15 miles away into the heart of Salt Lake City (down state street... where I figured someone would want to race me as usual... what losers... think thier little rice rockets can touch the power of a true muscle machine... only person that was a formidable opponent tonight was another chevy... and that was cause we were going uphill)

anyways!... so I put my driver side under-dash thingie on and decide that's good enough for now... only I turn my lights to experience the same problem again (only this time I know it's not my cluster's fault) so I'm jiggling some wires and whatnot and can't get it to work again.
Another problem also popped up: my stereo, which I spent 3 days getting to work, is dead too.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?

Edit:
sorry, folx, forgot I was in the engine forum... I have so many windows open all the time that I keep forgetting where I'm at.
