350 or 305? Which is it?

Hey everyone. I'm new to this board so I am not sure if I am even posting in the right forum.

But anyway, here is my question. I have recently found a 92 RS for sale near me. It is a good looking car. The interior and exterior are immaculate. Only problem is it doesn't have the stock motor. I know it originally had the 305 Tbi engine in it from the vin. The current owner of the car got the car awhile back from somebody who said it has a 350 in it. I wanted to know how if and how I can tell the difference from the exterior without tearing the car apart. It currently has a Carter carb (I believe) and has the stock 700R4 trans as far as I know. I couldn't look it over that much because, well, it isn't mine.

Also, the price they are asking for it it $2800. Is this a good buy or should I just pass it by? Thanks in advance.

Get the casting # off the side of the drivers's side of the block I believe it is, and do a search for block #s on this board, there is a post that lists a site to go to, that will tell you for sure.

Welcome by the way.

The side will say either 5.7 or 5.0.

My 305 has a rather large "5.7" cast into it, but it's still a 305. The seven- or eight-digit casting numbers don't lie.

Am I correct in saying the "RS" was always a 305 except if it has the B4C (Police) package?

Yes, but he said it's a different engine.
