Which sockish TBI intank fuel pump?

Which sockish TBI intank fuel pump?

Im looking for a "stockish" intank TBI fuel pump. I don't need anything like a Walbro 255 or Areomotive 340.
I am currently running a carb and with a TPI pump and AFPR. I believe the pump has went bad and plan to replace it. The carb only needs 5 to 7 psi so a "stockish" TBI pump will work just fine. Reducing the pressure from 12-22 PSI with the TBI pump will be less taxing than the TPI pump at 45ish psi.

What brand/style pump has everyone had good luck with. Something that wont crap out in a few months or is loud.

AcDelco EP 386?
Delphi FE0115?
Other?

I know there are some counterfeit / branded pumps on the market. I have replace the pump before when I went TPI originally so I know its a fun job. Not looking to have to do it again because I didnt pick a good pump.

For your needs I'd stick to AC Delco.

I was leaning towards the EP 386. I have read about people getting rebranded AC Delco pumps.
Any suggestions on a dependable supplier?
Rockauto?
Car ID?
Advance/Autozone?
Or just go with GM parts Direct?

Any of those should suffice. People seem to get burned when they buy from Ebay.

Limiting pressure of a TBI vs TPI pump is no more difficult with one pump of the other. As long as the flow is reasonable for the return line to handle the excess fuel it is not a problem. Restriction to flow is what builds pressure not the pump itself. I ran a 93 Astro 4.3 CPI pump which is the same one as a 96 Vortec truck on my G20 van for years. Still has the same Delphi pump as a matter of fact. It has fed a carb 305, a carb 350, a TBI 305 and a TBI 350 as well as a TPI 305 and a TPI 383 and now feeds a 450+ HP 8.1. That Delphi pump is the same one that GM shipped with the Ramjet 350 as well as the Ramjet 502 making 502 hp. At the 5-6 psi a carb requires it can support probably in excess of 700 hp. Volume goes up as pressure decreases.

I am running a return style FPR with the factory feed/return lines. I dont think the TPI pump was causing much of a spike, but the fuel pressure gauge is in the engine bay, so I can not verify while driving. My logic was since I may be replacing the pump, why not use the TBI version. Im sure the return line would not be a restriction for it.

If the factory feed/return lines would support a Walbro 255 (for example) while reducing the PSI down to 5-7, then I would go that route. If I ever switched to say Holley Sniper EFI, I would be set. It requires 60+ psi.

I am not planning on replacing the feed/return line.

If I'm wrong, as the meme says "change my mind". I'm open to suggestions.

  • DENSO 9515014 (better)
  • DELPHI FS0177 / DENSO 9520094 are fuel tank strainers

I think I will go with the EP381. Should be more than enough for a Holley carb setup.

Robert, not being a smarta**, but how would you define "mild" in this case? I know this isn't an exact science, but would, say, 300 be a reasonable threshold at which to make the jump from 241 to 381?
