Selecting a cam for my 305

Hi guys im looking to see what cam to install in my 305, my car is a daily driver but also sees some racing here and there. i am on a budget since im going to school. the mods done to it so far are: i removed the smog pump and the whole A/c system put a set of Heddman full-length long-tube headers into a 2 1/2 pipe with flowmasters, no cat.i got rid of my TBI and put a Eddy performer intake and Eddy 650cfm thunder avs carb. the 700-R4 has a shift kit and the rear is a posi with 3.91 gears. right now the two cams im looking at are Comps cam XR288HR http://www.compperformancegroupstore...Code=RLERCAMXE or a Elgin cam http://www.competitionproducts.com/E.../#.VBfRZ_ldXTo i want to get the comp one but its quite expensive considering i still need to get the valve spring retainers locks and pushrods. what do you guys think ?

LT1 cam's are cheap and will get the job done, since you are already carbed you wont need to worry about tuning the car with a chip, should be straight forward

Both of those cams are way too big for a swirl port head 9.3:1 305. Your stock springs are too weak for even this cam but a set of Z/28 springs should be a nice upgrade.
