Need new throttle body

Mine is sticking and my mechanic says I need a new one or this one needs re-sleeving because the butterfly's are sticking. Does anyone know where I can get a new or remanufactured Throttle Body? I have not Ben having any luck finding one.

Re: Need new throttle body

I would get some carb cleaner and a tooth brush, take it off and clean it really good. Its easy to take off and if they really are sticking they're probably just gummed up a lil bit. I would definetly try cleaning it before anything else. I highly doubt you need a whole new throttle body. Ive taken mine off and it really is simple, just make sure you put a new tbi gasket on it.

Re: Need new throttle body

You think that cleaning the inside where those butterfly's in the barrels could be dirty? When you advance the accelerator you can see when the butterfly opens and closes that it is rubbing the barrel a little bit. Honestly it looks clean, but I am willing to pull it.

I admit I don't know everything about my car, but I can see it where it is sticking. It looks bad. I would love it if it were as simple as cleaning it.

More then likley it's you throttle cable, buy a new one for like 20$ an it should fix the problem. 9/10 it's not the butter fly's unless you run your car without a breather for years.

Re: Need new throttle body

It's inside where it's sticking - like I said, I opened it up, looked inside and as I move the accelerator arm, you can see the butterfly's rubbing against the barrel when they come back down to where they rest closed. I don't see any kind of build up or debris, but clearly rubbing the barrels enough to make it stick.

If that's the case then it wasn't taken care of. It has never been a problem out of these cars. Now i think Toyota had a huge recall on like 1million cars for that.

Re: Need new throttle body

Could be ;-) my car is a restore project. There are just a handful of parts that are original on mine. This is one of those them. It has about 94k on it. Everything else about 11k now. I shoulda just replaced it with the motor, but I didn't. So, if I can get a new one that would be real nice. If anyone knows where I can get one, it's what I'm looking for.

Re: Need new throttle body

If this can be done with one of our TBI units then removing and sanding/polishing the bore a little should be OK. Even turning the throttle position screw a "tiny" bit to change its touch point. = http://www.nttga.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18207&page=1

Also = http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultimate-TBI-Mods-Thinned-Shaft-Shaved-Air-Horns-/231047944254?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35cb87d83e

I'm pretty sure that some of these guys know of a place to buy a TBI unit. I found this = http://howellefi.com/gm-tbi-products/parts-and-accessories/replacement-tbi-units.html

I don't know if there any good or not.

Wow - looks like that's what I am looking for - thank you! I will check and see if that Howell is a direct replacement for me. I think I will pull mine and try to clean it up, too.

Re: Need new throttle body

I believe the injectors need to be flow matched so ask them that .
Personally I would use the one I have and buy myself a nice Dremel set.

Re: Need new throttle body

I have a Dremel set, but I am not sure I would do a good job ;-) I posted a question to you over on your e-bay store about the one you have there. If you can let me know on that, maybe I can just buy that one.

That's just one I found on there site. I'm not affiliated in any way.
I like the looks of it, seems to be well done. Maybe one of the other guys could give there opinion on the unit.

Re: Need new throttle body

Hey guys. Checked out your post the other day and got curious about this too. Yes I've read the stickies and searched. Saw this one on eBay. Any thoughts?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TBI-Camaro-Firebird-S10-Blazer-ported-rebuilt-TBI-base-45hp-power-up-kit-1987-90-/200920942435?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec7d24763&vxp=mtr
Teams the ultimate tbi tricks, injector pod spacer, with a fuel pressure bump. Don't think I buy their hp claims (at all), but think this would solve your sticking if cleaning don't work out.

It's sticking because the steel throttle shaft has worn into the aluminum housing and now the butterfly is contacting the bore. No amount of WD40 will fix this. Full stop.

To the OP: Get a refurbished throttle body as suggested. Or you could try hitting the junk yard, good luck finding a good unit.

Re: Need new throttle body

I believe a decent carb shop could rebuild it(bushing). DC trumpet on this site may do it and Simpson36 has multiple posts on his TBI creations. Search them.

Re: Need new throttle body

If it was me I would not buy a stock unit. This to me is one of the items that I would replace with one that has been modified/ultimate version.

Re: Need new throttle body

I did order the replacement from tbiparts on e bay. The one that Ron found for me. I ordered it earlier tonight. Seems like it will be a good alternative and may actually be a better performer. I will update once it's installed. Wish me luck and thank you guys! Especially you, Ron!

Re: Need new throttle body

Excellent timing! I just got it today. It seems to be in great shape. I am going to get out in the garage tomorrow and see if I feel like I can do this myself :-) I picked up a new TBI gasket last week, so as long as it's the right one, should be good to go :-)

Re: Need new throttle body

Photos please.
I don't think I would mess around with the Idle Air Control Valve. Just swap it over as is and it does require a gasket.
It may require a TV Cable adjustment after the install. Ive never had to do it so one of the guys here might have some advice.

What is a TV Cable adjustment? Not planning on messing with anything, just moving everything over to the new one.
