91 Firebird not starting please help.
Hello, haven't posted on here in awhile and just bought a 91 firebird. its still a 305 tbi with automatic. It has aftermarket accel ignition. Well when i got it the guy had swapped out steering cloumns, and swapped the igntion. It wouldn't crank so i bought the painless wiring vats bypass and bypassed the starter relay. Now it will crank and start and die. I can keep it running if i spray starting fluid in it which means its firing. Now the two issues i'm havin is anytime the key is on the fuel pump comes on and stays on, and the injectors are clicking. When the car starts the injectors pulse on and off but with a huge delay, and won't keep it running.
Sorry for the long post but i wanted to be clear on it. Please if anyone can help me fix it or give me a place to start. Thanks

Theres more than just the relay. IIRC, the ECM also cuts fuel when the VATS isnt met. You need a VATS delete chip as well.

Hello, thanks for the reply. The vats bypass i bought is the one that totally eliminates the vats to the ecm, and gives the ecm the vats signal and you cut the vats wire, and run the wire off the bypass box to the computer. Anyway i ended up having to put a new fuel pump in, and it gets perfect spray when you turn the key on now, but doesnt spray anything after that like cranking and such, will still run on starting fluid. What else controls the injectors, i have put a new ignition module in it, and am running out of money. Thanks

VATS doesn't cut off fuel supply, VATS disables the injectors themselves. If the ECM doesn't get the right pulse wave (or whatever it gets) from the VATS module, then the ECM won't fire the injectors.
Maybe your VATS bypass doesnt supply the right frequency to the ECM? THere were two frequencies, I believe 30Hz and 50Hz - but do an internet search to be sure. Most VATS bypass units are switchable between the two frequencies - maybe you just need to reconfigure yours with a jumper setting or something.

Hello thanks for the reply. Ive done a little searching and have seen the same thing u said that theres two frequencys, 50hz and 30hz, i have no idea what frequency the painless wiring vats bypass puts out, or if theres a way to change it. If anyone knows how to please let me know, i'm tired of being stranded without a car. Thanks again

Hello again, disregared my last post, i went looking at the wires again, and had one wire wrong. I switched it and now the injectors are firing while cranking, but they dont squirt anything when i turn on the key, is this normal? cuz right now it will start, but runs very crappy and eventually dies. Thanks

Injectors won't fire with key just ON - car has to be running or starting.

Okay i wasnt sure if they squirted a little bit to start the car, like a priming squirt. But anyways I got the car to run again, had to pull the injector wires off a few times to burn the excess fuel outta the cylinders, But it starts everytime now. Thanks guys for all your help and replys.
