Edelbrock TBI intake 3704 matched to RHS Vortec heads. Can it be done??
Hi all,
Here is the deal. I have my used $100 Edelbrock intake, my $500 low mileage 350 TBI and a desire for power and mileage, because gas isn't getting cheaper. Vortec heads with decent springs are hard to find in my area, most are $600 or more. RHS Vortec heads are about $750, brand new, flow a little better than GM vortecs, and come from a shop, rather than Joe on kijiji or whichever classifieds you use. RHS vortecs are also drilled for the above mentioned intake AND have an EGR port (I have to be legal), HOWEVER, ports are still all vortec, so they don't match up so great. I can easily give them the height required and there should be enough meat to seal, but the ports on the intake are a bit wider than the vortec head ports, so my gas/fuel mix is going to hit a restriction at the end of the intake runner. I am not building a monster motor, just trying to get good mileage and decent power after I lay my 305 to rest. Am I sweating nothing, or should I/could I use some JB weld or similar to fill in the intake a bit to improve the transition? Also, the other thing fueling this is Vortec TBI intakes are $300+ and the headers to match with the EGR tube run $450+, no ceramic coating, while I can get a set of ceramic coated headers locally for less than $300 and I already have the intake. This is also going in a truck, but it really wishes it was a Camaro! Thanks in advance.

Never did it. Found a little crack in my block while cleaning it up and never used it as it was intended for my daily driver. Ports are different (I deleted my photos it seems) and likely need to be matched to be optimum, but would probably work without. TBI runners aren't as tall as vortecs. Sorry I'm not much help, but if you decide to travel that route, please post the results.
