fuel injector cleaning at home?

fuel injector cleaning at home?
Is there a way for the do it yourselfer to clean fuel injectors at home? I hate to pay someone $45 to clean them. It seems like you could just apply enough voltage to them, open them up and spray them real good with carb cleaner. Thanks

These are the 305 injectors that I replaced with 350's in my IROC. I was wanting to clean them and put them in my 92 RS 305 which has injectors that are not spraying too good.

I don't know if that would clean the inside fuel passages thoroughly enough with them being closed due to no voltage there to open them up. Maybe it would, I'll give it a go and see if it makes an difference.

For something as important as injectors, I'd be too worried about messing something up. I think Rich at www.cruzinperformance.com only charges $90 or so to clean them. Why not leave it to a professional. Do you have the tools and experience necessary to do this?

I just put a 9 volt battery to the terminals on the injector and it opened it up. By doing this, I can simply spray the carb cleaner through the passages myself instead of paying someone that much. It may take more ingenuity and time on my part to effectively clean them, but I can keep my money. I don't see how I could screw them up.

I bet you could screw em up. those are definately famous last words!
just put em in and run stp's total fuel system cleaner for a week or 3. its like 15bucks a can but it works.

LOL... Kind of like how Jan Brady thought she didn't need glasses and then crashed her banana seated bicycle into the group portrait of the Brady kids that they were going to give to "mom & dad" for their anniversary. Boy did she feel like sh*t. 
But seriously, all the battery does is open the injector to allow the carb cleaner to disolve any build up around the seat of the aramature. Hell, I have an extra pair even if they did mess up, but I would rather try it this way and see if the spray pattern improves for free than to not try it and fork over 90 dollars for nothing if this works. If it does or if it doesn't I'll post what happened. It might save some people a lot of money. (and lose lots for others).

So what came if the fuel injectors? Did you clean them yourself satisfactorily or did you send them out?
