305 TBI to 350 TBI

can anyone help me ? I was wanting to convert my 92' RS from a 305 TBI to a 350TBI , I want to install a 350 short block ,heads ,intake and large throttle body . Do I need to change computers or will the stock computer work with a reprogrammed chip ?

I just asked a similar question not too long ago. Search before posting next time, there's a ton of 305 -> 350 swap topics here.

Heres the topic I started for a 305 -> ZZ383 swap... same concept, just a few more cubic inches.

Same as putting in any other motor. If its just a plain jane truck style 350 with the late style intake bolt pattern and 1 pc. RMS you can slap all the stuff from the 305 onto the 350. All youll need to do is tweak the chip. Teh tuning needed could be anything from jsut some minor changes to a complete reworking of the calibration, or a swap to a later PCM if need be. All depends on what youll be putting in.

depending on how much power you plan on making, you may want to consider a larger bore manifold, bored TB, bigger injectors, and a fuel pump.

I was planning on a TBI vortec manifold , I think I would still have to enlarge the bores on the manifold because I would like to install Holley's throttle body witch has 2" bores and larger injectors and flows 670 CFM . I was thinking of also leaving off the emissions equipment .

You can also use a carb manifold with an adaptor. Requires some thinking on your feet to get it to install but other then that itll work well. If your not running emmisions equipment, then tuning is definatly a good idea. The computer adds quite a bit of fuel in to shut down the cat and this can be leaned out a bit to help with power. Not to mention that everything else like th timing, VE tables, AE, etc will need to be tuned. Have you decided on what cam youll be using?

if you have to pass a visual inspection, then your car will not pass with emissions equiptment removed. Most cars will pass the sniffer if the cat is still installed, even after the AIR system is removed.

As far as throttle bodies, there is a seller on ebay that sells bored and rebuilt TB's for our cars. It looks like he takes his time with every TB, and he claims that the bored TB flows 750cfm, which is a lot more than the stock 420cfm. He sells TONS of TBI stuff.

Heres a link to his ebay listings:

Thanks for the info on the throttle bodies , I don't have to pass any inspection at all . Illinois doesn't have any inspections yet and I don't have to pass any city inspections either. Can the ECM be reprogrammed for running no emissions . I've heard that you would get fault codes for not having an ERG valve hooked up.

You can run without emmisions if you disable a few things like EGR. It wont throw any codes once the appropriate stuff has been disabled.

Thats cool , I have'nt decided on a cam yet , I probably call one of the cam companys first and see what they would recommend , They can suggest the perfect cam for the other part combinations. I will run a roller cam with roller lifter and rocker arms . I'm just looking for a streetable car . Anything is better than the 305 .

im buying the zz383 crate motor and swapping that with my 305. best part is... if i paint those heads and the manifold black, it'll look stock to the untrained eye

I've thought of maybe doing a 350 fastburn crate motor or something like that. The 383 would be killer though. I also plan on swaping my 5 speed for a retro-fit T-56 6 speed.

im going with a beefed up 700r4, just because it's going to be a daily driver, and the car is already an automatic.
