i'm back

hey gang,
since i am getting a series of questions about my leaving adn returning i will sort of explain everything that happened.
as many of you remember, i was around here a lot up until about a year ago. i used to be one of the mods on this board and i had a 91 RS that went 14.20's on a stock chip and cam with rather extensive, but mismatched, mods. i was one of the lucky idiots who caught myself on teh bleeding edge of tbi development adn i made a lot of mistakes taht i hope you can all avoid(cause they are very expensive...lol)
you may also remember that i was runnign an event here in new jersey called the east coast f-body nationals.
well, early last year i had a whole bunch of stuff going on adn i sort of overloaded and freaked a bit. i got transfered at my job, changed my 15minute commute into a 1hr 15min commute, my event blew up in my face(thanks e-town, i love ya for it), and i found out taht the frame of my beloved car taht i had been racing nearly every weekend(drag, solo2, open track) for 8 years was tweaked beyond reasonable repair.
all of this built up along with teh stresses of my new job and i sort of dropped the onloine thing, canceled the event adn just chilled for a while, about 6months.
once my head was on straight again and i got a transfer back into teh area so that i woudl actually have time to work on a car i went about parting out my old car and saving a lot of the real goodies for my next thirdgen(i want a first gen bird too, but 3rd gens are like home to me).
i changed my name cause i used to really get hammered about my old combo and every little detail of what i know about tbi, so i decided to use the license plate version of my old name(yes, i already ordered the plates for my new whip) so i could slip back into teh game a little easier.
that is about teh whole story, not glorious, but i am back and willing to help you guys avoid my mistakes. besides, with pablo here, how could i stay away...ain't that right buddy

Good to hear you got everything straightened out. I like to see some of the big members from when I first got here coming back like you and Pablo, now all we need is Tas. But its good to see you back throwing in another experience opinion on things.

Don't forget about JP and Snuf. They need to get back here on a regular basis. JP needs to do a beginners class on chip tunning so us dummies can catch up with some of the real fast guys on the tbi board, like himself, Dewey, Demented, ect.... Again NJ it's good to have you back home.

glad to be back. thanks for all the support.
my '83 will be the sickest project i have ever attempted on my own.
i am gonna prep the chassis like there is no tomorrow and in a year or so i plan to drop in a very very strong turbo'ed LS1 motor. the idea is to run at least mid 9's(my goal is to se an 8second timeslip on 92octane) on pump gas while driving to and from teh track. all on small DOT approved tires.
some people are sayin i am nuts to even try this, all i can say is that i have been nuts for a while and i adjusted and they need to accept this

That sounds like an awesome project nj. Definitely keep us up to date on everything with that buildup, sounds like it should be insane power.

ahhh. well with the porsche and the z71, the camaro sits idle... waiting and begging me to do something with the 2k$ heads and 355 they go on. got a 3500 stall too, but with the stock tranny, shot suspension and stock rear with 140k on it.... i think im still a ways away boys.

I am however going to be back in here more as I modify the truck's tbi setup. with duals and a nice cam in it, i think headers, intake and 454 tbi want on it. hell, its faster than my maro

good to see you back NJ. Pablo IS around, and he's still nuts but we love him. Eric's in and out, taz is alive, jon is rare.

someday, us oldtimers LOL should roundup.

well now that we are all old and done with school and have real jobs and some $, we could actually do it. I travel a lot for work. have a couple free plane tickets, rental cars, hotels. and about 2 weeks of paid time off.

NE is a long ways from NJ, but I think we could still make it happen somewheres in the middle or something... anything cool between us... wally world

You all need to find some place where there is a dragstrip close by and drive there. Maybe even invite anyone who could show up. Not nessesarily an official event, just plan a day and whoever shows up shows up.

It is nice to see all of the old faces returning.

Maybe it had something to do w/ the recession that we're coming out of? Either way though, maybe we can get back to our glory days, like when I could get 10 responses to a thread a day.

8's huh NJ?? Well, I know w/ a Lunati cam and some LS6 parts, you can get into the mid 11's, but beyond that, I've only seen mid 10's, but that's on the juice, BUT w/ a turbo:hail:

As for me, I went away to Afghanistan for a while, but have returned w/ some combat pay saved up and have a purchased a 93' 350 Crate motor w/ a Comp Cam and some Trick Flow heads, so we'll see where I get with it. I'm shooting for low 13's or high 12's.

Anyways, it's nice to have yall back. Shifty has been doing a great job caring the torch lately though.

P.S. - NJ, is there any way I could get that sweet program from you that fixes ALDL files automatically?

Hey thanks. I learned from the best of them. I read their posts way back when TGO was a baby. It is good to see the old names come back. The guys who really know their stuff are a nice help.

Local dude here, Mike Brown, goes mid-high 9's on 104 octane with stock style suspenion and no tubs or anything. That was with a stock bottom end, too! I think its a forged bottom end now, so he should be solid mid 9s with a heavy C/E TA. With a ~3100 lb 3rd gen you'd be getting mighty close to 8s.

Best of luck to you, that'd be one hell of a fun car

Steve

i gues that locks it then. we need to do this in new jersey
we have 3 tracks fairly equally spaced out, so it is easy to find a night and a place to play.
i am actually starting to get back into teh event plannign thing too, so i will let you guys know about that. maybe we can turn a small gathering this summer into a TBI get together at teh same time. anyone know where we can track down macgyver? can't get all teh old timers together and leave him out....hehe
