Trying to help my brother out.

Hello. My brother has a 1992 Camaro RS with the 305 TBI.

Mods as best I can remember are the usual open element, Turbo-City TBI on stock manifold, exhaust (no headers) spacers.....yadda yadda.

So I am thinking of trying and hooking him up for XMAS and his b-day.

1. Would roller rockers be a good bang-for-the-buck mod? I understand what they do. But I am unsure which ones to get.
2. Would a intake manifold really help him? Like a Edelbrock TBI unit or even a ported stocker for the Turbocity 2 inch bores?
3. His exhaust is pathetic.....it sounds good but the pipe is pieced together and leaks all over the place.

He has always been there for me and I couldnt get him anything when I had lost my job. I want to make it up to him. Please help me out here.

Thanks much!

Just some suggestions

1.) Comp Cams magnum rollertip 1.6 ratio rockers They will bolt on with minimum hassle and give him more lift (about .030) from his current cam. and should work well with his ECM. They are fairly
inexpensive compared to full roller rockers.

2.)A Edelbrock intake manifold will help also. Just make sure it fits under the hood with a air cleaner attached. Call Edelbrock tech and tell them what its for and have them give you a recommedation on which one.

3.) A shorty style 1 5/8 headers will work great with his current combination. 1 3/4 headers would be to big for a 305.

4.) Nitrous oxide is expensive and hard on older engines if
used/abused to much. Since I don't know the mechanical state of his engine, I would not recommend that. Only he can decide that one.

thanks for the reply. one thing i keep suggesting to him is a set of gears. he is using the stock 2.73's with a open diff. i told him a set of 3.73's will really help him out and he wont lose his top end.

so 1.6 ratio roller rockers for a sbc? hmm sounds good! thanks!

SA Roller Rockers are expensive and not worth it on a stock engine in my eyes. At the point he's at go with either full 3" exhaust with headers or if you don't want to spend all that go witht he exhaust he has and some headers. Check out Hooker 2055's. Gears are a very good idea, good bang for the buck, I'd go either 3.73 or 3.42 with a posi carrier.

with that set up i think you would be better off with 3.42 gears and may i suggest some subframe connectors if he doesn't have them. won't make the car faster but they are considered one of the best mods for these cars.

What is your budget? I would buy him a cat back exahust. You will spend 150 to 250 for a good one and it will come with everything needed for the install. You guys can install it yourself and he will love the new sound and added performance over his current set-up.
