Coil over kit questions

For anyone that has a coil over kit on their car. Is the sleeve retained in any way? My sleeve just drops over the strut but can spin, nothing holds it from spinning. Does your set up have a bearing at the spring seat? Do you have the thrust bearing at the top, bottom or both? Mine only has a nylon washer at the top mount nothing at the adjuster on the sleeve.

Re: Coil over kit questions

I have the Spohn kit and use KYB AGX struts with it. The sleeve rotates freely on the strut but only before the spring is pre-loaded.
On this kit the top spring seat is in the upper strut mount itself. There are thrust bearings at the top and bottom of the spring.

OK, so your sleeve just slips on and nothing stops it from rotating the same as mine. My springs have a little pressure on the spring when I assembled them and once on the car the sleeve stays put with the spring weight on it. I ordered some bearings just to make it easier to turn. My car isn't on the street, drag car only.
I have simple 90/10 struts that probably need to be replaced and 150lb 12" springs. I have the spring adjusters down all of the way and the car sits right at the ride height I had before with Moroso trick springs. Plenty of space between all of the coils with the car sitting.

On the kit you have what does the top of the coil over spring seat against?

Re: Coil over kit questions

Thanks for the pics, I haven't seen a set-up quite like that before. With no bearings I can see there being extra resistance to steering. Which end of the spring do you plan to put the thrust bearing? It doesn't look like the flange on the adjuster is big enough to support the bearing.

Re: Coil over kit questions

I've got 2 sets of bearings coming, if they fit well I'll look at putting them top and bottom, figure it can't hurt. I bought the coplete K member, rack and coilover setup used, I believe it all came from AJE I know the K member is theirs. I'd not seen a top mount like that before but it's made to work with stock strut bearing setup. I had UMI style caster camber plates that it won't work with. I might change the top set up if I want to put my plates back on.
