I have been looking and was wondering if it worth to get a tubular k member? The car is mainly gonna be a street/ strip car. Also is is stronger than the factory one? If its not are there any type of mods that can be done to the factory one?

No, they're pretty flimsy compared to stock. The only reason to get one is to either free up space or to remove some weight from the front of car. Sometimes stock A-arms won't fit (like in the case of BMR) so watch for that hidden $700 cost to get tubular A-arms.

A drag car can benefit from removing the weight because it will aid in weight transfer and drop some pounds off the car. But it's the wrong kind of weight to remove from a car intended to corner because it will increase the height of center of gravity.

The biggest benefit is space savings to accommodate exhaust and front end accessories. The second is weight savings. If I had to do it all over again I'd probably keep my stock one, have it powerdercoated and notched for LS AC.

Me too. I'd ditch the BMR in a heartbeat if I wasn't too lazy to redo things.

The UMI road race unit is light, well thought out and "purdy", but it sucked getting all my aftermarket swap parts to play nicely together.

No worries. If I really wanted to save 30lbs I'd stop eating.

Re: Tubular K Member

I went with the UMI piece, not road race, I already have UMI control arms on the car. I like extra room, on my LT1 4th gen the UMI K made a night and day difference far as working on the car, a lot easier access from the underside. A lot of it too is the aesthetic aspect, same reason I went with front tubular control arms. The factory pieces remind me of something off a old Chevy G20 Van, so I didn't want to waste time rebuilding them when the front end of the car was rebuilt. The weight savings is an added bonus I suppose, its crazy to think when you do all of it, including going to an aluminum block, heads and composite intake, how much weight is removed from the front of the car.
