Sphon Subframe Connectors

Hello everyone, doing some final touches on the car and was looking to have my new exhaust and sub frame connectors put on today.

This is the 2nd shop who didn't want anything to do with the install, mentioning it would be a few hundred due to the complexity of the install. Pulling out carpet, etc.

Could someone let me know if you've had these installed, and the work that went into it? Maybe a price you paid?

Cause I didn't realize it would be this much work to get them on. Very frustrating!

At least I'll get the exhaust on.

Any help is appreciated, it is these by the way: Sphon SFC

Thanks in advanced!

Re: Sphon Subframe Connectors

I can't remember how much I paid. I know it wasn't cheap. But mine were welded in. The guy has been welding forever and definitely knew his stuff. He said carpet didn't need to be pulled back. He welded them in, and everything was fine. For the heck of it, I pulled carpet back after. And there was no signs of heat on the carpet. Although I'm sure your better off "safe than sorry" and should pull it back.

Re: Sphon Subframe Connectors

I guess im having trouble finding someone comfortable enough to do it.

If you don't mind me asking, what is considered not cheap?
I was expecting to pay close to $300

Re: Sphon Subframe Connectors

I just got a quote from a local speed shop today that makes $300 look pretty good. The guy said $550 to weld in UMI connectors and add another hour if the car is undercoated, of coarse it is, just my luck!
Needless to say I am still looking for an installer.
If anyone knows of a good place around Akron, Ohio a referral would be great.
I wish you luck finding an installer.

I think mine was right around $300. He had to grind the powder coat off on some parts and prep them for weld. Took a while but not super long.

Re: Sphon Subframe Connectors

A friend just did this on his 89 vert, $100. Try a muffler place, thats where he went. Took a few tries til he found someone willing to do it.

He had the sphon?

I'll call around to a few more. Is it really that dangerous? I certainly don't want my baby to go up in flames.

Re: Sphon Subframe Connectors

You definitely want to put the connectors in first. The exhaust can be adjusted for the connectors. If you want to try to save money, prep everything yourself. Not too hard to undo the seal plate (4 screws?) and the kick panel comes right off along with the trim pieces. Pull the carpet back. Get a wizz wheel and prep your surfaces to be welded. Another thing I would try is to find someone besides a higher price "shop" to do the welding, such as 84 1LE said, like a local muffler shop, mobile welder for farms, or even like a school that has shop or junior college. Then your only paying for labor on the weld itself.
